Urban Research Division presents new directions on urban growth and management in the efforts to make a livable city by closely examining various issues that our cities confront and forecasting on change of their future. And it conducts researches to invent the relevant legal system for the success-ful implementation of the national urban policies.

The research topics vary from physical development projects such as new town plans, redevelop-ment plans of existing urban areas and district plans to community regeneration, restoration of urban economy, and efficiency enhancement of urban management.

Sung-Soo Hwang

Associate Research Fellow. Master in Urban Plan-ning GSES of Seoul National University.

Major research fields are Urban & Regional Plan-ning. Recent research works include 「The Com-prehensive Development Plan for Central Inland Region towards the Year of 2020」(2006), 「Compre-hensive Development Plan for Ongjin」(2005),

「Gimpo New Town Development Plan」(2006), 「A Study on the Station Area Development」(2006), and 「Ilsan International New Town Development Plan」(2006), 「Policies for the Waterfront Devel-opment in Urban Area」(2002).

Sung-Su Kim

Associate Research Fellow.

Currently enrolled in University of Hawaii at Manoa for Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Plan-ning.

Sang-Jo Kim

Associate Research Fellow. Master in Urban Plan-ning and Design, Seoul National University.

Major research fields are urban policy and

plan-ning, urban design. Major research studies include 「The Study of Namhae-gun Urban Master Plan」(2004), 「An Approach to Institutional Pro-vision for Transfer of the Approval Right of Urban Master Plans to Local Government」(2003), and 「(A)Study on the policy improvement for the new town development」(1998).

Young-A Lee

Associate Research Fellow.

Currently enrolled in University of Bristol in U.K.

for Ph.D. in Housing Policy.

Se-Hoon Park

Associate Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Administra-tion Seoul NaAdministra-tional University.

Major research fields are urban policy and ning, planning history, and Japanese urban plan-ning. Recent research works include 「Decentral-ization Strategies and Policy Guidelines for Bal-anced National Development(I)」(2005), 「A Study on the Promotion of Industrial Capital Cities for the Development of Specialized Regions in Korea」(2004), and 「Site Selection and Evaluation management for New Administrative Capital City」(2004).

Young-Sang Kwon

Associate Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Design, Seoul National University.

Architect.

Major research fields are architecture and urban design and planning, urban structure, design the-ory, planning histthe-ory, and historical urban plan-ning of Korea. Recent research works include 「A

Beum-Sik Min

Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Urban Planning, Uni-versity of Tokyo, Japan.

Recent research works include 「Master Plan for New Multifunctional Administrative City」(2006),

「Planning Guidance on Residential Density Crite-ria」(2004), 「Development Plan for Pan-Gyo Dis-trict in Sung-Nam City」(2003) and 「Policy Tools for Rehabilitation of Built-Up Residential Area」

(2002). He is currently Director of the Urban Research Division.

Hyun-Sik Kim

Senior Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Urban Planning, Princeton University, USA.

His recent research works include 「The Role of Festivals in the Reproduction of the Urban Life-world」(2006), 「Metropolitan Planning and Man-agement : With Special Emphasis on Area - Wide Urban Services in the Seoul Metropolitan Area」 (1998) and 「Regulatory Reform in the Adminis-tration of Construction and Transportation」 (1998). He was Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1981 to 1985. He served as Director of the Urban Affairs at KRIHS and Director of the Urban and Regional Planning Research Division.

Suk-Hi Chung

Senior Research Fellow. Ph.D. in City and Region-al Planning, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Some of his major research works include 「A Feasibility Study on the New Town Development for International Business in North-western Region of Kyonggi Province」(2006), 「A

Feasibili-ty Study on the New Town Development of Pankyo Area」(1999), 「Development Guidelines for High-Speed-Railway Station Impact Area」

(1997), 「A Comprehensive Plan of Busan Metro-politan City for the 21Century」(1992), and 「Ilsan New Town Development Plan」(1991). He has been serving as member of the New Town Devel-opment Commission of the Ministry of Construc-tion and TransportaConstruc-tion, and as member of the Balanced Growth Commission of the Ministry of Government Administration and Human Affairs.

Tae-Soo Kang

Research Fellow. Bachelor in Agricultural studies, University of Seoul.

Recent works include 「Master Plan for Multifun-tional Administrative City」(2006), 「The Metro-politan Plan for Daejeon」(2005), 「A Study on the New Capital Plan for Operation Construction in Korea」(2004), 「Strategies for National Spatial Data Infrastructure」(2003) and 「Master Plan for Ulsan Metropolitan City」(2002).

Eun-Gwan Park

Research Fellow. Master in Urban Planning and Design, Seoul National University.
