■KRIHS Korean Translation Series 1, 2 & 3
The series are intended to have interested people refer to when implementing the ‘Creating a Liv-able City' project, co-organized by KRIHS and the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development. ‘New Trends in Urban Planning' illustrates in detail the new trends in the 21st-century urban planning, examining cities in the U. S. and Europe. ‘Matzizukury and Citizens' Par-ticipation' presents case studies and theories on Matzizukury, a movement for a revolutionary change in general aspects of urban environment of Japan through citizens' participation.

The book is an architectural manual published for the economic control of public building construc-tion of palaces, public agencies, tomb altars and castle walls. First published in the 12th century in the China Northern Song Dynasty, it contained all the data and information related to construc-tion before. In addiconstruc-tion, both Topsa, meaning
‘pagoda and temple' of the Yo and Gem Dynasty, and Gogungjobeop, meaning ‘manual for old palace construction' of the Won and Myeong Dynasty are based on this book. In this sense, it can be rightly called the guidelines for Chinese architecture. The book was also referred to very often in the Korean ancient dynasties of Goyeo and Chosun, and useful in understanding old building of Korea.
Originally, the book was published in the past by Kim, Euiwon, the incumbent President of the Construction Promotion Association of Korea when he was serving as President of KRIHS. It was one in a series of the Korean translation of Chinese Classics related to territorial develop-ment, and published following the translations of Julegogoki and Cheongonggaemul. The 2006 edi-tion is the re-edited and revised version of the publication.
