Leisure activities and trend analysis Environment & Culture Research Division carries out researches on territorial policies that are con-ducive to the environment and culture, aiming at the sustainable territorial development and enhancement of the quality of people’s life.

Committed to the realization of a pleasant and sustainable territory of the 21st century, the research center conducts studies on the ecosystem management, environmental conflicts management, climate change and the environment of Northeast Asia, resources and energy management, water resources policies, watershed and river management, etc. The objectives are to improve the environmental per-formance and efficiently utilize the scarce resources of the nation.

In addition, for the improved quality of people’s life based on a safe territory, and expansion of the leisure activities, it performs researches on the territorial and urban disaster prevention, regional cul-ture policies, land development and the following regional culcul-ture and identity promotion, territorial amenities improvement, sustainable tourism policies, establishment of area-wide development schemes for tourism, etc.

Yeong-Kook Choi

Senior Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture, Agricultural University of Norway, Norway.

「Key Issues for Performing Sustainable Tourism」

(2004), and 「Linkage of Spatial Planning and Environmental Planning System toward Sustain-able Development」(2002). He is currently Director of the Environment & Culture Research Division.

Sun-Hee Kim

Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Environmental Engi-neering, University of Seoul.

Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Natural Resource

Moon-Woun Lee

Associate Research Fellow. Ph.D. candidate (All but dissertated.) in Urban Engineering, University of Seoul.
