우리사회의 공정성 및 부패 인식 수준은 사회통합에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났 다. 즉, 분배 공정성에 대한 인식이 부정적일수록 사회통합 수준에 대해서도 부정적으 로 평가하는 경향이 확인되었으며, 반대로 절차 공정성이 갖춰졌다고 볼수록 사회통합 수준에 대해서도 긍정적으로 평가할 확률이 높게 나타났다. 또한 한국 사회가 부패했다 고 생각하는 사람일수록 사회통합 수준에 대해서도 부정적으로 평가하였다.
이러한 공정성 인식은 어떤 면에서 보면 사회갈등의 소지를 명확히 표현한다. 격차 의 해소, 물질적 불안정성의 축소 외에도 사회통합 증진을 위해서는 사회제도의 정상 적인 작동에 대한 믿음을 줄 필요가 있다. 이를 위해서는 한국인이 경험하고 있는 각종 사회갈등의 양상 및 원인을 명확히 파악할 필요가 있다. 그리고 국민들이 기대하는 바 의 갈등 관리 거버넌스가 어느 정도 작동하고 있는지, 작동하지 못한다면 이유는 무엇 인지를 짚어 봐야 한다.
