They are illusions. What we see is not real, but we react to them as if they were real. They are the best way of telling a story because, like a slice of life, we see and hear the characters. We see and feel their emotions. We see what they see as the action of the story unfolds. The success of them comes from their ability to involve the audience. We as the viewers are meant to feel the events of them as directly as possible. And we are meant not to understand that our emotions are being controlled by others. In the late 1800s and the early 1900s, they were silent and black and white only.

Medical research supports the idea that stimulation of all kinds is necessary for a healthy brain; especially for children, but also throughout life. Stimulation produces the neurotransmitters which in turn nourish the neurons that make up the brain. There might actually be a connection between the amount and kind of stimulation, and the kind of intelligence a child develops as an adult. For this reason, medical experts suggest that people keep their brains working by some suggestions.

Quite a number of men and women are afraid that the stress and strains of work will rob them of joy and happiness and do them harm both physically and mentally. However, stress isn't the bad thing it is often supposed to be. Unless it gets out of control, a certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and challenge, and to give purpose and significance to an otherwise meaningless, idle life. Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. What we can do is to develop our adaptive abilities to deal with it rather than to escape from it.

27. Because the Earth is round, we can only see things on it for a certain distance, that is, as far as the horizon. Its distance depends on how high our eyes are from the level of the sea. For example, a child standing on the shore whose eyes are 1.2 meters above the sea will see the horizon about 4 kilometers away. So he or she will be able to see a sailing boat that far away, but no further, because the boat would be below the horizon. On the other hand, if the child were to stand on a cliff 30 meters above sea level, he or she would observe the horizon about 21 kilometers away. 28. When poor farmers or fishermen want to sell their products, they usually do not have the vehicles to bring the products to markets. Thus, they usually sell their produce to traders called “middlemen”. These traders buy from the poor people and sell the produce in the markets for a higher price. Because the poor farmers and fishermen cannot market their own produce, they have to sell it at lower prices to the middlemen. Many associations and NGOs are now helping poor farmers and fishermen to market their products directly to the consumers. In this way, they will

There are lots of people in the United States who give donations to charities just because they believe strongly in what the charity is doing. However, what some of these people don't realize is that all of the donations they make to these charities can also help them save money on their taxes each year! The average American pays about 33% of her or his yearly

income in taxes. Therefore, any way to save money on the taxes a person has to pay each year is a welcome benefit. Furthermore, these donations to charities are not limited to cash only. The first English dictionary was not published until 1775. It was compiled and written by Samuel Johnson. Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language differed in two respects from the “word lists” published before. First, Johnson's dictionary included more words. His dictionary contained 100,000 words, whereas the longest previous word list contained only 40,000 words. Second, his lexicon focused on word usage based on examples taken from the works of famous English writers. It took Johnson nine years to complete the dictionary, working mostly on his own for the entire project.

I saw my mom graduate from college last June. She held her diploma and walked down the steps with tears in her eyes, just like all the 22-year-olds. When she was 22, she was a long way from college. She was a high school dropout who didn't have the skills to do much but pack boxes in a warehouse. Sometimes she had no work at all. I remember the way the store clerks would look at her when she gave them food stamps instead of money. It made me want to sink into the floor. But my mom always held her head up high. She always said, “There's no shame in honest work.”

Somehow she managed to get her high school equivalency while raising me. Then she got it into her head that she wanted to go to college and study psychology. She was always saying, “I've got a good brain, I just haven't always had the judgment or the luck to match.” Her judgment was good enough to keep me healthy and out of trouble while she worked toward her degree at night. As for luck, I'm the one in the family who has it―she is my mom.

Little Bear Brom is walking in the woods. He is going to pick up flowers for his mother's birthday. He walks on the path and arrives at a stream. At the other side there are beautiful flowers. Carefully Little Bear Brom goes on the bridge. Then he looks down and sees the water. And he is terribly scared. Do you know what he is seeing...? As quickly as he can he walks back and does not dare to go on the bridge again.

When he gets tears in his eyes, a fox suddenly arrives. Little Bear Brom tells him that he sees a monster in the water. The fox says, “Try it again, and if you see the monster again, look at him very angrily! Then the monster will be frightened and leave soon.” So Little Bear Brom goes again on the bridge. He sees the monster, looks at him very angrily, but he gets frightened even more than the first time and runs back as fast as possible.

Then a nice wolf arrives. Little Bear Brom tells him everything. “The monster is strong,” the wolf says, “you should take a stick with you. Then the monster will get scared and will leave immediately.” Little Bear Brom takes a very big stick in his hand. Carefully he goes on the bridge again. He sees the monster, puts his stick ahead and do you know what he sees...? Immediately he runs back and starts crying.

Little Bear Brom does not notice that an owl flies into the tree beside him. “Why do you cry so loudly?” the owl asks. Little Bear Brom tells him everything, including what the fox and wolf advised. After listening, “I understand,” the owl says. “Do you know what to do? Try again one last time, but looking in water you must smile at the monster.” Little Bear Brom tries this, and... : YES: he laughs, and... he does not get frightened anymore. Do you know what he sees? Laughing and dancing he goes farther and picks the flowers for his mother.

(A) Hemingway often thought of courage as a person's ability (a) to be calm and controlled in the face of death. His theme is presented in his novel “For Whom the Bell Tolls?”, the story “The Old Man and the Sea” and “A Day's Wait”. By misunderstanding a different thermometer, the boy thought he was running a high fever and would soon die. However, he took his death bravely and (b) waited quietly for it. The boy showed us he had courage.

(B) To me, courage means truth and justice. The person in a high position often hears songs in praise of himself or herself. Some people are sincere. Some are (c) flattering the superior in their own favor. The leader also needs both courage to welcome criticism and those who have the courage to criticise him. Such courage may come from mutual understanding. I think a man of courage will value truth and justice, and (d) not hesitate to do what he thinks is right. There is no such word as fear in his dictionary.

(C) I think such a definition of courage is far from being enough. Courage should not be limited and related only to death. In ordinary life, there are common things that also show a person's courage. For example, on a bus trip, a thief was trying to steal a girl's purse. Some people saw it, but kept quiet. They were afraid to be revenged by the thief. The brave, however, (e) stood out and stopped the thief. 49.(A)~(C)를 이어 하나의 글로 구성할 때 가장 적절한 순서는, ?
