The purpose of this study was to analyze the historical content of Korean science textbooks. For this, we analyzed the type and the organization of the history of science, the content of the history of science, the method used to present the history of science, and the source of the history of science in 20 science textbooks (from 3rd grade to 10th grade) based on the 7th science curriculum. The findings of this study are as follows. First, many science textbooks presented the information on scientists as biographic data for the individual scientist, the importance of the scientific community was rarely stressed. Second, scientific content was mainly presented in the cognitive domain. More science content related to the inquiry and the affective domains is needed. Third, science textbooks

should have more visual materials on historical machines, laboratory equipment, original docu- ments/texts, and historical experiments. Fourth, the content of historical science mainly consisted of accidental information. As a result of these we conclude that findings of the historical content of Korean science, as well as teaching-learning materials, need to be developed.
