anything about construction, and we’d only be there

어느 날 나는 가난한 사람들을 위한 집을 짓는 것 을 돕기 위해 세계의 여러 곳으로 갈 자원봉사자를 필요로 하는 프로그램에 대해 알게 되었다. 이에 관 한 발표를 본 후, 나는 이 임무에 대해 감동을 받아 다음 자원봉사자 여행에 참여하기로 결심했다.
하지만 의문도 들었다. 나는 건설에 대해 아무것도 아는 것이 없었으며 우리는 겨우 2주일 동안만 그 곳에 머무르는 것이었기 때문이다. 정말로 발표에 서 말한 것처럼 우리가 그들의 삶을 바꾸어놓을 수 있을까? 나는 곧 알게 될 터였다.

There were clear skies and temperatures over 30˚C that first week. Under the burning sun, we carried blazing 타오르는 날 랐 다
bricks, mixed concrete, and dug holes for pipes. We 섞 었 다 팠 다 목 적 had to slowly take apart the family’s hut to get more 해 체 하 다 목적 bricks and other materials for the new house. Every 목 적 morning, the family and their neighbors would provide breakfast for everyone.

첫 주에는 날이 맑았고 기온은 섭씨 30도가 넘었 다. 타오르는 태양 아래 우리는 벽돌을 나르고, 콘 크리트를 섞고, 파이프를 심기 위한 구멍을 팠다.
새집을 위한 벽돌과 자재들을 더 얻기 위해 원래 오 두막을 서서히 해체해야 했다. 매일 아침 집주인 가 족과 이웃들이 모든 이들에게 아침을 제공해주곤 했다.

complained. I’m thankful for the friendships I’ve 불 평 하 다 made through this trip.
그러고서 자원봉사자들과 지역 주민들, 집주인 가 족들이 모두 일을 시작하였다. 때로 먹을 것과 이야 기들을 나누었다. 저녁이 되면 모두 지치고 땀투성 이가 되었지만 행복했다. 한 주가 더 지난 후, 집이 마침내 완성되었다. 마지막 날, 우리는 새로운 집 의 완성을 축하하기 위해 파티를 열었다.
그것은 놀라운 경험을 마무리 짓는 가장 좋은 방법이었다. 모든 지역 주민들이 함께 했다. 모두 가 춤추거나 기쁨의 눈물을 흘렸다. 나는 우리에게 작별의 손을 흔들던 가족들의 얼굴 표정을 결코 잊 지 않을 것이다. 이 여행을 돌아보면서 나는 그렇 게 많은 다양한 사람들이, 전혀 만나보지도 못한 가 족을 위해 집을 지으러 함께 왔다는 사실이 놀라웠 다. 우리 중 많은 이들에게는 집을 짓는 것이 처음
이었다. 일은 힘들었지만 단 한 명도 미소를 그치거 나 불평하지 않았다. 나는 이 여행을 통해 얻은 우 정에 대해 감사하게 생각한다.

I thought / I was there to give, but I received so much more in return. This experience has inspired 대 신 에 = motivate , e n c o u r a g e

to help out in the future.

이 내 친구들이나 가족 구성원들도 훗날 다른 사람 을 도와주도록 격려할 수 있으면 좋겠다.
2주라는 시간이 그리 길어 보이지 않을 수도 있지 만, 나는 새로운 친구를 사귀고 다른 문화에 대해 배우며 가장 중요하게는 타인의 삶을 더 나아지게 만드는 일을 할 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 이제 이 가 족이 머리를 누일 수 있는 안전한 장소를 갖게 되었 다는 사실이 매우 기쁘다.
나는 모든 사람이 제대로 된 집에서 살 자격이 있다 고 믿는다. 지금 이 순간에도 살 곳이 없는 많은 사 람들이 아직 세계 도처에 있다. 그들은 나처럼 평범 한 사람이 그곳에 가서 집을 지어 주고 싶게 하는 이유이다.
