✪ to부정사의 형용사적 용법
① 앞의 명사를 뒤에서 꾸며준다 : ~할, ~해야 할
ⓐ I have a lot of homework to do.
나는 해야 할 많은 숙제가 있다.
ⓑ I want to drink something cold. 명사적 용법 나는 시원한 무언가를 마시는 것을 원한다.
ⓒ I want something cold to drink. 형용사적 용법 나는 마실 시원한 무언가를 원한다.
② 전치사를 필요로 하는 to부정사의 형용사적 용법
ⓐ He has no friends to play with.
그는 함께 놀 친구가 없다.
ⓑ He has no paper to write on.
그는 (위에) 쓸 종이가 없다.
ⓒ He has no pen to write with.
그는 (가지고) 쓸 펜이 없다.
ⓓ He has nothing to write about.
그는 (대하여) 쓸 내용이 없다.
ⓔ He has no chair to sit on.
그는 (위에) 앉을 의자가 없다.
ⓕ He has no house to live in.
그는 (안에서) 살 집이 없다.
✪ to부정사의 의미상 주어
① 문장의 주어
I want to be a doctor.
나는 (내가) 의사가 되는 것을 원한다.
② 문장의 목적어
I want you to be a doctor.
나는 네가 의사가 되는 것을 원한다.
③ for + 목적격
To master a foreign language is not easy.
가주어 의미상주어 진주어(to부정사)
= It is not easy (for us)to master a foreign language.
일반인주어 생략가능
→ We are not easy to master a foreign language.(✖)
사람을 주어로 취할 수 없는 형용사 외국어를 습득하는 것은 쉽지 않다.
④ of + 목적격: 사람의 성질
가주어 의미상주어 진주어(to부정사) It is kind of her to help the old woman.
사람의 성질은 of 목적격
→ She is kind to help the old woman.(❍)
사람을 주어로 취할 수 있는 형용사 그녀가 그 노파를 도운 것은 친절한 일이다.

② 동사+부사 (부사에 강세)

③ It is not easy to master English. 가주어 영어를 마스터하는 것은 쉽지 않다.
It is true that Tom broke his promise. 가주어 톰이 약속을 깼다는 것은 사실이다.
④ He made it a rule to exercise every day. 가목적어 그는 매일 운동하는 것을 규칙으로 삼았다.
