GIS Research Center, the GIS hub of Korea, tries to actively respond to the changing paradigm of the new information technology. For this, it has set the goal of inventing a new creative knowledge by discovering issues that will help strengthen national competitiveness, and presenting practical research measures.GIS Research Center carries out researches related to the establishment, monitoring and assessment of the National Geographic Information Systems (NGIS). In addition, it tries to make GIS more convenient to use, and have people more easily access to it. It also promotes cooperative research among major NGIS research groups of Korea.

The center plays the key role in formulating strategies for GIS utilization and development method-ology. The goal is to implement the central and local e-governments, and establish the network of geographic information, It will lead to the creation of the GIS-based cyber and ubiquitous world. GIS Research Center provides the efficient ways to construct and manage the national spatial and geo-graphic information database, and facilitate the GIS application development in the public sector aim-ing at accelerataim-ing the informatization of national territory.
