가해자들 중에는 유력 정치인, 문화예술계 거장 등 다수의 공인들도 포함이 되어 있다. 이러한 사건들 은 대중들의 공분을 사고 있다.
가해자들에 대한 강력한 처벌을 요구하는 목소리가 사회 전반에 퍼지고 있다. 사람들은 이러한 성범죄 를 뿌리 뽑기 위한 근본적인 대책 마련에 대한 필요 성을 인식하고 있다.

#metoo 미투 운동
우리나라에서는 # 기호를 '우물 정' 혹은 '샵'이라고 읽는다. 영어 권에서는 사용되는 문맥에 따라 발음이 다르다. 전화기 숫자 패드 를 사용하여 누를 때는 pound라고 하고, 숫자가 붙을 경우 number이라고 읽는다. 한편, SNS상에서 특정 주제를 표시하 기 위해 사용할 경우, hashtag이라고 읽는다.
