Gov’t cancels backchannel negotiations with Reds
The government has cancelled the planned backchannel negotiations with the communist rebels following the recent
rebel attacks against government forces. Presidential adviser on the peace process Jesus Dureza made the announcement after President Duterte refused to resume the fifth round of the formal peace talks if the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels would not stop attacking troops.

Rain to persist over Southern Tagalog, Visayas, Mindanao
Rain will continue in most parts of the country on Thursday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). The ITCZ, where winds from northern and southern hemispheres meet, is affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
