자주 가는 구내식당에 대해 이야기해 주세요.

나는 점심은 주로 건물 지하에 있는 회사 식당에서 먹는다. 나가서 사 먹는 번거로움을 피하고, 가격도 비교적 저렴한 편이기 때문이다.

매달 식권을 한꺼번에 구입해서 사용한다. 식당에 가면 요일별로 어떤 메뉴가 나오는지 안내가 되어 있다. 주로 매일 두 가지 메뉴에서 선택하게 되어 있다. 하나는 한식, 다른 하나는 양식이다.

식판과 수저를 챙겨서 줄을 선 뒤 밥, 반찬, 국을 담 는다. 샐러드와 샐러드 드레싱은 항상 반찬으로 나 온다.

추가 양념으로는 고추장, 김, 참기름 등이 항시 배 치되어 있어서, 밥을 비벼 먹을 수도 있다. 더불어, 떠다 마실 수 있는 식혜도 늘 있다. 밥을 다 먹고 나 서는, 반납 창구에 식판을 반납한다.

A: It's time for lunch already. Where should we eat?

B: I'm very busy today. Let's just eat at the company cafeteria.

A: Again? I'm sick of that place. Let's go someplace else.

B: Okay, then how about the sandwich place across ^{샌드위치 가게} the street?

A: 벌써 점심시간이네. 우리 어디서 먹을까?

B: 오늘은 너무 바빠. 그냥 회사 식당에서 먹자.

A: 또? 그곳은 질렸어. 어디 다른 데 가서 먹자.

B: 알았어. 그러면 길 건너편에 있는 샌드위치 가게 어때?

self-service 셀프 서비스

우리는 음식점이나 주유소 등에서 '셀프', 즉 self라 는 단어를 자주 사용하지만, 영어권에서는 이처럼 줄여서 말하지 않는다. 반드시 self-service라고 말을 해야 표현이 자연스럽고 의사 전달이 정확하 게 이루어질 수 있다.
