You would expect that when an alphabetic plan of writing appeared, most people would have wanted to use it. But that was not the case. People in Egypt went on using their old forms of writing. Perhaps the scribes who had mastered the difficult art of writing were not interested in a plan that would make it easier for others to write also. There are at least three different views that must be considered when discussing the parking problem at the University of Canterbury. The first is the view of the
(A) . It supplies a certain amount of free parking to the students although it is quite expensive. It has also increased parking spaces steadily. Unfortunately, as soon as the number of spaces increased, more students drove to university and the problem has remained.
From the (B) point of view, adequate parking is a necessity. The public transportation system in this area is not good enough, so many students cannot help driving to university. But they are often late for lectures because it’s not easy to find empty parking spaces.
(C) also need to be considered. They can’t park or have their visitors park in front of their houses because the students have already parked their cars there. They would like the university to provide more parking for the students.
At the moment the conclusion is that the parking problem at the University of Canterbury is not going to be solved in a short time. It is also a problem that is not going to go away. The number of parking spaces is at the maximum now, and it is almost impossible to create more, for both economic and environmental reasons. The only possible course of action appears to be in the area of public transportation.

When we left the airport and were driving back home, I asked my mom about what the girl had asked me. “Why did she want to know if I had black dolls?” My mom explained to me that she was from a different background from mine and probably had black-skinned dolls at home instead of white-skinned ones like mine. That was when I realized that there were different people who grew up differently from me.
(B)
One day, when I was about six, my mother took me and my brother to the airport to pick up my grandma. I had brought some of my Barbie dolls to play with while we waited. When we got there, another little girl was sitting there and she started playing with me. After we had been playing for some time, she asked me why I didn’t have any black dolls. I didn’t know what she was talking about, so we just kept playing.
(C)
As a child I never really thought about the differences between myself and other people around me. I just thought that everyone was just the same as me. When I was in college, I had a friend named Calvin. He was a great player and a proud leader of our football team. One week during the school year, I noticed that Calvin was waiting at the bus stop every day after practice. I knew he had a car, so I couldn’t figure out why he was taking the bus. My curiosity got the best of me, so I asked him where he was going on the bus. At first, he refused to tell me, but at last he said that he was taking ballet lessons. Ballet lessons?
When he saw my reaction, he told me that Lynn Swann of the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom he admired, had taken ballet lessons to improve his skills. If it was good enough for Lynn Swann, it was good enough for him. After he told me, Calvin seemed a little concerned that I might tell his secret to others. So I told him that to make him trust me I’d sign up for the ballet class, too. Calvin and I went to the class together for a long time and became closer friends.

The idea for Heifer International was first developed by an American farmer, Dan West, in the 1930’s. Mr. West was working in Spain, where he realized the need for cows. Many families were starving because of the civil war going on in the country. So Mr. West asked his friends in the United States to send some cows.
The first Heifer animals were sent in 1944. Since that year, more than four million people in 115 countries have had better lives because of Heifer animals. Last year,
Heifer International helped more than 30,000 families in forty-six countries.
If you want to receive a Heifer animal, you must first explain your needs and goals. You must also make a plan which will allow you to become self-supporting. Then the organization provides you with animals and necessary training.
A person who takes part in the program also becomes a giver. That is, anyone who receives a Heifer animal must agree to give that animal’s first female baby to other people in need. This concept of “passing on the gift” helps this movement spread around the world.
