3월에 시작되는 새 학기에 대해 이야기해 주세요.
한국의 학교들은 3월에 새 학년을 시작한다. 초등 학교, 중고등학교, 대학교 모두 동일하게 3월에 첫 학기를 시작한다.
중학교, 고등학교 학생들은 새로운 반에 배정을 받 아 새로운 친구들과 담임 선생님을 맞이하게 된다.
더불어, 각 과목 선생님들도 만나게 된다. 1학기는 7월 중순까지 이어지고 여름 방학을 하게 된다.
대학생들은 새로운 학기를 위해 수강 신청을 하고 수업 준비를 한다. 학년에 따라 전공 필수 과목과 선택 과목의 비중이 다르다.
대학에 막 들어간 신입생들은 설레는 마음으로 대 학 생활을 시작하게 된다. 대학에서는 1학기가 6월 중순까지 이어지고, 긴 여름 방학이 시작된다.

Don't sweat it. 너무 걱정하지 마.
A: Is something wrong? You look like / you’re worried about something.
B: The new school year starts next week. I'm a little scared.
A: Don't sweat it. You did very well last year. You'll do well again.
B: Thanks. I hope things won't change too much.
A: 뭔가 문제라도 있어? 걱정거리가 있는 것 같아 보이는데.
B: 다음 주에 새 학년이 시작되잖아. 조금 두려워.
A: 너무 걱정하지 마. 작년에도 잘했잖아. 이번에도 잘할 거야.
B: 고마워. 너무 많은 것이 바뀌지만 않으면 좋겠어.
year 소속 학년
초등학교부터 고등학교까지는 학년을 grade라고 하지만 대학교에서는 이처럼 말하는 경우가 드물 다. 수강 과목의 수, 전공, 휴학 등 졸업 자격을 획 득하는 과정이 더 자율적이고 다양하기 때문이라고 생각해도 무방하다. 따라서 grade 대신 1년차부터 차례로 freshman, sophomore, junior 그리고 senior year이라고 한다.
Anyone can take this class, no matter what year they are in.
이 수업은 학년과 상관없이 누구든지 수강할 수 있다.
