W: Hello, everyone. I’m Grace Kim of Listeners’ Club. You might not be used to listening to audiobooks, but it has some advantages over reading printed books. One advantage is that you can listen to an audiobook anytime, like while driving, walking, or cooking. Second, kids who can’t read yet can also enjoy books by listening to them. Last, you don’t need to carry heavy books. You only need a portable device to save and listen to thousands of books. So, how about listening to your next book?

M: Hello, students. I’m Jake Anderson, the head of this dormitory. I’d like to talk about one very important rule that you should follow in the lounges.

The lounges on each floor are common spaces for everyone. Eating snacks or other food is not allowed there. However, some students have food and even leave their food garbage in the lounges. The smell of food can be unpleasant to others, and food waste can attract insects. Please make sure you don’t eat food in the lounges. Remember you’re sharing these areas with a lot of people. Thank you for your cooperation.

M: You’re right. Not very many people know about this place.

W: Right. We should promote the heritage sites like this actively.

M: Yeah. They are our precious heritage.

W: Sure. I think heritage sites need active promotion, like online ads and

M: Hi, Sarah. Where were you?

W: Hi, Ryan. I went to a Thai restaurant to eat noodles. I missed the taste I had in Thailand last winter.

M: They were probably a little different than you remember, right?

W: Yeah, I felt like something was missing this time. How did you know?

M: I read an article that said feelings changed by travel can work up our appetite.

W: Even if it’s the same dish?

M: Yes. Travel changes our mood and it positively stimulates our desire to eat. I had a similar experience.

W: I see. It wasn’t the food that was different.

M: Right. Traveling can practically affect our taste.

W: Then I might have to travel again for noodles.

M: Nice to meet you, Ms. Davis.

W: Same here, Mr. Wilson. I saw your show last winter.

W: Thanks so much. And thanks for taking some time to talk with me.

M: My pleasure. You had some interesting questions about my magic in the email you sent me.

W: Right. I emailed you because I’m writing a novel about magic.

M: I see. I was excited to receive an email from such a famous person.

W: Thank you. I can’t wait to hear your stories about performing magic.

M: All right. I’ll tell you about it now.

M: Well... I don’t think I can do that this vacation.

W: You had a part-time job to save for it. Haven’t you got enough money?

M: I’ve saved enough, but I don’t have time for a trip.

W: Why? Are you going to take classes at summer school?

M: No, I’m not. But, I applied for a summer internship and got the job.

W: It looks expensive. How much is it?

M: It’s 30 dollars.

W: That’s reasonable. I’ll take it. Do you have a wireless mouse, too?

M: Sure. It’s 10 dollars. You can choose the color, white or black.

W: I’ll take the white one.

M: Good. Since you’re buying this with the keyboard, you can have 10 percent off of the total.

W: Yes. Do you want me to help you find a good one?

M: Sure. First of all, my budget is less than 50 dollars.

W: Okay. How many liters do you want?

M: I don’t want a small fish tank. I think the size should be bigger than five liters.

W: Then which material do you prefer, glass or plastic?

M: Well, which one do you think is better?

W: I’ve used both of them but I like plastic fish tanks. They’re stronger than glass ones.

M: I think I should follow your advice. Now I have two options left.

M: I saw a TV program about the same skills. I was thinking of trying it.

W: Why not? After starting to organize unnecessary things, I found it has helped me a lot.

M: Like how?

W: I have more space. And it’s easier to find the things I do use.

M: Yeah, that would feel good. I think I’m interested in doing it.

W: Good for you. Why don’t you give it a try?

M: ________________________________________________________________

W: Honey, can we talk about a plan for our holidays?

M: Sure. Do you have a particular place you want to go?

W: I was thinking of going abroad to a remote tropical island. We can stay warm and enjoy swimming in the ocean.

M: We went to a similar place last year. I remember we were exhausted after a long flight.

W: That’s true. We both had a hard time going back to work the very next day.

M: Then, how about visiting a place near home this year?

W: Well, are there any good places nearby?

M: A local resort like Kings Village could be good. It’s just a one-hour drive from home.

W: I agree. We don’t have to spend a lot of time at the airport and on flights.

W: Good morning, History of Food listeners. Did you know that some of the fruits we enjoy today didn’t look the same in the past? For example, the color of the first oranges wasn’t actually orange. The original oranges from Southeast Asia were green. Moreover, whereas today’s watermelons are usually bright red inside, paintings of early watermelons in the 17th century tell us that they were pale in color. About 7,000 years ago, bananas also looked totally different. Bananas had two varieties. One of them had harder and larger seeds, and thicker skin. Finally, unlike the peaches we eat today, peaches around 4,000 BCE used to be much smaller in size.

We’ll come back right after a commercial break, so please stay tuned.
