Growth and Physical Properties of ZnS Thin Films Electrodeposited on Indium Tin Oxide Substrates

ZnS films were electrodeposited onto indium-tin-oxide (ITO) substrates in the electrolyte solution.
The solution to deposit ZnS consisted of 0.05 M zinc chloride (ZnCl
2), 0.05 M sodium thiosulfate (Na
2S
2O
3), triethanolamine (TEA) and deionized water. During the deposition, the temperature of the solution was maintained between 60
◦C and 80
◦C. XRD spectra showed that the ZnS films had cubic structures with lattice constant a = 5.40 ˚ A and were preferentially grown along the (111) orientation. The stoichiometric composition at the surface of the ZnS film was investigated by using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and was 0.46:0.54. The dynamical behavior of the charge carriers in the ZnS film was investigated by using photoinduced discharge characteristics (PIDC) technique. From PIDC measurement, it has been found that there was a hole drift in the as-deposited ZnS film and the hole concentration and mobility for the as-deposited film were 5.06
