Development and Application of a Spring Balance Device for Blind Students

In this study, “equipment for a spring experiment for blind students” were developed to help blind students perform the spring experiment that appears in the elementary science textbook at the fourth-grade level in the 2007 revised curriculum. Before production, a preliminary survey and interviews were carried out with the teachers at the G School for the Blind. The effectiveness of the equipment was proven by using experiments and interviews with visually-impaired and completely- blind students at the G School for the Blind. In the interviews, blind students replied that it was easier to hang the sprint weights on the springs and to visually identify the length of the stretched spring with this device. In addition, they replied that this device was useful for identifying the lengths of the stretched spring for various weights and for performing the experiment alone.
