Ⅴ . Qualifications for Applicants
Category Qualifications
Freshman
The applicant must satisfy at least one of the language proficiency requirements and conditions listed below.
1. Applicants holding the level 3 or higher in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) (Certificate must be valid at the time of submission)
However, the applicant for the College of Engineering in Samcheok Campus and Dogye Campus (except the ‘Division of Electronics Information & Communication Engineering’) must hold the level 2 or higher).
2. Applicants who have completed the level 4 of higher class of the Korean language program at the KNU International Language Institute.
3. Applicants with the English Proficiency Test Scores
-TOEFL PBT 530, CBT 197, iBT 71, IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, TEPS 600, TOEIC 700 (Certificate must be valid at the time of submission)
- Only the English test score is accepted for the applicants wishing to apply to the ‘Department of Global Business’ at the College of Business Administration.
4. For applicants wishing to apply to Arts and Sports areas, it’s must to have competed the Korean language program for more than 1 year at universities in Korea.
5. KGSP students, Foreign government supported scholarship students, applicants from the countries whose native language is English (US, Canada, UK, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland)

In the case of the number 1~4 in the above, applicants are expected to take the test or complete the course. (The relevant certificate must be submitted by February 17(Fri), 2017)- 7 -

Freshman
※
Even though the applicant accepted with the condition of language qualification could not submit the language qualification related document by February 17(Fri), 2017, he/she will be admitted for the Fall 2017 upon providing that language qualification related document required in the application guide for Fall 2017 within the specified period.※ Every admitted student must acquire at least TOPIK level 4 or English proficiency certificate(minimum score: TOEFL PBT 550, CBT 210, iBT 80, IELTS 5.5, TEPS 600, TOEIC 700) before graduation. Students majoring in Arts and Sports and Global Business, and students from English speaking countries(above listed 7 countries) are exempted from this requirement.
- KGSP students, Foreign government supported scholarship students and applicants that hav e applied to the 6 departments in Samcheok Campus (Architecture Design, Architectural System Engineering, Advanced Materials Engineering, Energy & Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Environmental & Ocean Construction Engineering) must acquire TOPIK level 3 and higher.
Transfer Student
Applicants must have the afore-mentioned qualifications for freshmen as well as the following educational requirements.
1. ▶ Sophomore Transfer : Applicants who have completed1(or expects to complete) 1 year 2. (2 semesters) program and earned over 33 credits at universities in Korea or overseas 3.
▶ Junior Transfer: Applicants who have completed2 (or expects to complete) 2 years (4 semesters) programs and earned over 65 credits at universities in Korea or overseas
▶ Senior Transfer:
① Applicants who have (or expects to) a 3 year college bachelor’s degree of the kindergarten teacher program with the certificate for a licensed kindergarten teacher (level 2).
② Applicants who have (or expects to) a 3 year college bachelor’s degree in medical personnel training program (radiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dental hygienists) with the relevant certificates.
▶ Applicants who have graduated (or expects to) from the junior college (community college) in Korea or overseas
※ KNU students enrolled in the Chuncheon, Samcheok and Dogye campuses are ineligible to apply.

3. Refund of Tuition Fee
A. The tuition fee is returned according to the university regulations if the applicant who has to unavoidably withdraw from admission by statute before the date of matriculation or due to the rejection of visa.

Ⅸ . Important Notes for All Applicants
1. All documents must be the original copies written in either Korean or English. Korean or English translation must be attached to documents written in other languages.
2. If it is impossible to submit the original copy, the copy checked against the original certificate by the issuing organization or authenticated copy must be submitted. (If the original copy was submitted, it will be returned after it is checked against the copy.)
3. If there is falsified information on the application, etc. or the submitted documents are incomplete at the time of the document screening (step 1), the applicant is considered to have
“failed” and will be excluded from the interview and performance test.
4. The admission may be rescinded even after being admitted or entered if the applicant is later discovered to have applied through illegal means such as false or forged materials, and the tuition fee will not be refunded.
5. The admission scores are not released and both the submitted documents (materials) as well as the application fee will not be returned.
6. The application cannot be changed or cancelled after submission. Please be careful when
filling out the online application for any inadequacies due to erroneous, omitted or inaccurate
information is the responsibility of the applicant.

7. The admitted student must pay the tuition fee within the specified period and both the acceptance and the admission will be cancelled for no payment.
8. The conditionally admitted prospective graduate must submit the graduation certificate by February 24 (Fri), 2017, and if not, both the acceptance and admission will be cancelled.
9. The standard certificate of admission will be sent to the student who has to apply for the visa to stay abroad. For the student living in China, it will be sent after attaining the visa certification number by the Immigration Office.
10. If the accepted student has to withdraw from admission for unavoidable reasons, the paid tuition fee may be refunded according to the university regulations.
11. Every admitted student must buy accident insurance effective as of the date of entering Korea in preparation for possible accidents or illnesses. (It must be valid while in school.)
12. The financial supporter must be the applicant, his/her father or mother except for the scholarship student.
13. Other matters not specified are decided by the “Admission Committee.”

Ⅺ . Evaluation Criteria
1. The applicants are evaluated by calculating the average scores graded by the 3 members of the Document, Interview, and Performance Test Screening Committee by department (major).
2. If an applicant is assigned “very unsatisfactory” mark in any evaluation category by any member of the member of the Document, Interview, and Performance Test Screening Committee, that applicant will be considered “disqualified” from the university admission process.
3. The following situations will be excluded from the screening.

Ⅻ . Korean Language Program at the International Language Institute
□ Program Introduction
The Korean Language Program at the International Language Institute of Kangwon National University targets the foreigners who wish to study Korean systematically. In particular, it offers the best learning environment for the students who aim to enter into the undergraduate or graduate school in Korea. The program is structured to naturally familiarize the foreign student s with Korean culture in addition to the Korean language study by providing various opportunities to experience culture. Consisting of 5 levels, the Korean Language Program is open in spring, summer, fall and winter. The level test is conducted for the freshmen to study at the appropriate level.
