Australia’s aid to Myanmar supports Myanmar’s reform agenda. This assistance is delivered in a complex and fragile development
environment. In addition to our aid program, trade and investment links are expanding.
Strategic direction
Myanmar is taking forward a challenging set of economic and political reforms and is pursuing a nationwide peace process. It is in the interests of Australia, Myanmar and the region for Myanmar to continue its democratic transition and move towards prosperity. The objectives of Australia’s aid program in Myanmar are to:
• enhance human development by improving access to quality education;
• promote peace and stability through support to the peace process and democratic institutions and the provision of humanitarian assistance; and
• promote inclusive economic growth and government management.
Gender equality is a focus across all activities. Australia’s aid program priorities align with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, SDG 8 and SDG 16 on education, inclusive economic growth and peace.
Program highlights
