Ⅱ KOPIA Activities in Ethiopia
1. Main Project
• Technical Cooperation Project
① Development of Garlic Seed Production Technology ② Development of high quality tomato varieties in Ethiopia
③ Development and promotions of apple production technologies
④ The integration of poultry farming for rearing of agricultural gender group
⑤ Development of Advanced Korean Vegetable Technologies that are adapted to Altitude conditions of Ethiopia
⑥ Adaptation, Promotion and Production of best varieties of cold season vegetable seeds in Ethiopia
⑦ Development and Demonstration of Advanced Vegetable Technologies with the intergration of poultry farming for rearing of agricultural Gender group.
2. Program on KOPIA
� KOPIA Model Farm in Holleta Center
As doing a critical role for vegetables R&D in Ethiopia, KOPIA trains farmers and researchers as well as conducts researches on adaptation of Korean vegetables in conditions of Ethiopia. Therefore, we have finished researches on adaptation to the Ethiopian environment for 15 crops/38 varieties and accomplished to have varieties certifications of 4
crops(Green onion, Lettuce, Gimchi cabbage, Carrot) in 6 regions. Also, we have researched seed production techniques so that it increases the needs of vegetables in Ethiopia.
� MLN Virus Diagnosis & analyzing the epidemic
MLN is one of the serious problems in East Africa. Thus, we have established a PCR diagnosis lab and conducted researches on 4 primers. Additionally KOPIA analyzes the issues on seeds, soil, and vector problems in terms of epidemics. We also held workshops to tackle down MLN virus issues with invited Korean specialists.
