A lot of people dream. And while they are busy dreaming, the really happy and successful people are busy doing. Dreams are lovely, but they are just dreams. Dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It is hard work that makes things happen and creates change. So, this is my first lesson for you: Be a doer, not a dreamer. Maybe you know exactly what you want to do, or maybe you have no idea what you truly want to do. It doesn’t matter. You don’t have to know. You just have to keep moving forward. You just have to keep doing something, seizing the next opportunity, and staying open to trying something new. It doesn’t have to be the perfect job or the perfect life that you dream of. Perfect is boring, and dreams are not real. Just do!

If you’re dreaming of traveling, leave right now.

Do you want to be a writer? Start writing. A writer is someone who writes every day. If you don’t have a job, get one. Get any job. Don’t sit at home waiting for the magical opportunity. Do something until you can do something else.

President Hanlon, staff, ① honored guests, parents, students, families, and friends, good morning and congratulations to the graduating class! ② What people give graduation speeches, they usually tell you: Follow your dreams. Dream! Dream and dream big! Don't stop dreaming until your dreams come true. I think that's nonsense. A lot of people dream. And ③ during they are busy dreaming, the really happy and successful people are busy doing.

Dreams are ④ lovely, but they are just dreams.

Dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It is hard work that makes things ⑤ to happen and creates change.

This is my first lesson for you: ① Be a doer, not a dreamer. Maybe you know exactly what you want to do, or maybe you have no idea what you truly want to do. It doesn't ② matter. You don't have to know. You just have to keep moving forward. You just have to keep doing something, ③ seizing the next opportunity, and staying open to trying

something new. It doesn't have to be the perfect job or the perfect life that you dream of. Perfect is ④ interesting, and dreams are not real. Just do! If you're dreaming of traveling, leave right now. Do you want to be a writer? Start writing. A writer is someone who writes every day. If you don't have a job, get ⑤ one. Get any job. ③ What is the job of the writer’s mentor?

④ What are the writer’s interests and talents?

⑤ What does the write want to be in the future?

My third lesson is this: Accept that you cannot do (A) [anything / everything]. Since I'm a very successful woman and a mother with three children, many people ask me, "How do you do it all? How do you become successful at your job while having a family?" Now I'm going to give you an entirely honest answer: I don't. (B) [Wherever / Whenever] I'm succeeding in one area of my life, I'm failing in another area. If I'm writing really (C) [exciting / excited] stories for television, I'm not spending enough time with my children. If I'm enjoying a family holiday with my children, I'm not finishing the script that I should.

My name is Anna Lee. I am a freshman in high school. I am really interested in science, especially chemistry. When I enter university, I want to study chemistry and other sciences. I am also good at computers and organizing things. I hope to work in a scientific field when I graduate. My dream job would be to work in scientific research. I would like to work on finding new discoveries in the fields of medicine and healthcare. Fortunately, I have a mentor who has encouraged me to investigate the scientific principles behind everyday occurrences.

That person was my science teacher last year. He helped me develop my interest in science and set my goals for the future. I know it will not be easy to achieve my dream, but I will do my best.

7. 다음에 이어지는 대화의 순서를 바르게 배열한 것은?(제 주)7

8. 글의 흐름으로 보아, 주어진 문장이 들어가기에 가장 적절 한 곳을 고르시오.8

A: Mike, have you signed up for the English Vocabulary Contest?

B: Sure, I've always been interested in words, especially English words.

A: I signed up for it, too. What have you done to prepare for the contest?

(a) I know what you mean. Do you know how many students are going to participate in the contest?

(b) Okay, Let's meet at the library after school.

(c) Umm, I heard about a hundred students will enter the contest.

(d) Well, I've been memorizing the word lists from past contests. But it's not easy to memorize all the words.

(e) It's going to be a big contest. Mike, why don't we study for the contest together?

So before you complain, remember that you have been given a gift.

My second lesson is this: Don't be self-centered.

Right after graduation, you may have the worst days of your lives. But don't act like you're the most miserable person in the world, because you are not. We are already a lot luckier than most people on the earth. We live in the country where we are free to speak our own mind and most people believe that everyone should be treated equally regardless of gender or race. In some parts of the world, girls are harmed simply because they want to get an education. Slavery still exists. (①)

Children still starve to death. (②) Even in the United States, there are countless people who are living much more difficult lives than we can ever imagine.

(③) Crime and violence are part of the everyday lives of these people. (④) Your whole life so far has been a gift. (⑤) It's time to pay for it by doing something for the world.
