●Researches on adaptation to climate change The Green Territory & Urban Research Division works on spatial polices related to green growth, improvement of urban environment, and enhancement of culture.
More specifically, with regards to green growth, it performs research on environmental management, water resource management, natural disaster prevention, energy-saving, and CO2 reduction policies. It also explores urban planning and development and urban regeneration policies, which are traditional research subjects of the division, for improvement of the urban environment.
Lastly, it is engaged in the research of policies for cultural enhancement, which includes the study on the conservation of cultural assets, cultural development, and creation of healthy cities.
Three centers are established under the division to perform these roles: Center for Territorial Policy
& Green Growth, Center for Urban Regeneration Policy, Center for Cultural Territory Policy, and Water Policy & Terrirorial Disaster Prevention Research Center.

Major research projects concerning urban planning and development include 「Urbanization and Urban Policies in Korea」(2010), 「 The Enhancement of Policy Planning Function in Comprehensive Planning」(2010), 「New Approa-ches in Urban Planning System to Make a Livable City」(2006), 「The Making of Livable Cities In Korea」(2005) and 「Urban Planning Decision and Social Justice」(2004). He served as Director of the Urban and Regional Planning Research Division in KRIHS, and also as member of the Central Urban Planning Commission of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. He is currently member of the Land Use Regulation Inquiry Committee of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

The Housing, Land & Construction Economy Research Division tries to set government’s policy directions, deal with political needs immediately, and accomplish government projects efficiently. It seeks to improve the quality of life by analyzing markets and developing policies and legal systems for improving land and housing conditions and the construction economy. It conducts important studies related to housing welfare improvement, efficient use and management of limited land resources, and development of the construction industry. Major research areas include the following:
analysis and forecasting of land and housing market trends; plan, development and evaluation of housing welfare policy and land development policies; analysis and forecast of the construction economy; establishment of measures for improving laws and productivity of the construction industry. It operates four centers related to real estate market analysis, housing welfare policy, land policy, and construction economy.
