The National Territorial Planning & Regional Research Division carries out research on national territorial plans, regional plans, and plans of the Korean Peninsula and north-east asia region.

Especially, the division gives priority to carrying out principal spatial plans and related mid and long-term policies.

Its main research fields are as follows. First of all, it carries out comprehensive and systematic research on national territorial plans and revised plans aiming at a balanced and sustainable development. Secondly, it conducts research on various regional development policies and strategies such as capital region and industrial location policies to boost regional competitiveness. Thirdly, it performs research on North Korea and the Korean Peninsula and suggests policy programmes for promoting mutual cooperation between Korea and North-East Asia. Four centers are established under the division to perform these roles: Center for Mega Region Studies, Center for Capital Region Policy, Center for Industrial Location Policy, and Center for Global Territorial Research.

Kim Dongju

Senior Research Fellow. Ph.D. in Regional Economics, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

He has worked at the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development as a director of Policy Research Division and is currently a director of National Territorial Planning &
