Hydrogen Storage Behaviors of Ni-loaded Activated Carbon/MOF-5 Hybrid Composites

Recently, hydrogen has attracted much attention as a promising energy resource and is expected to be applied to fuel cell systems. We prepared nickel (Ni)-loaded activated carbons (Ni-ACs)/MOF-5 hybrid composites in order to enhance the hydrogen storage capacity of MOF-5 at 298K and 77 K. The Ni-ACs/MOF-5 was prepared using a hydrothermal process, which was synthesized with Zn(II) ion as a metal centre and terephthalic acid as organic ligands. The Ni-ACs/MOF-5 formed crystalline structures, measured by XRD. The textural properties of the Ni-ACs/MOF-5 were investigated by N2/77 K adsorption isotherm. The hydrogen storage capacity of the Ni-ACs/MOF-5 was investigated by BEL-HP at 298 K/10 MPa. From the results, we concluded that the Ni-ACs/MOF-5 would be potentially encouraging materials for hydrogen adsorption and storage applications at 298 K.

Phenyl carbazole based phosphine oxide high triplet energy host material for high efficiency deep blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode

High efficiency deep blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes have been developed using high triplet energy host materials synthesized by a phosphonation reaction of phenyl carbazole with chlorodiphenyl- phosphine. A high quantum efficiency of 19.2% with a deep blue color coordinate of (0.14, 0.16) was achieved in the deep blue device with 3-(diphenylphosphoryl)-9-(4-(diphenylphosphoryl)phenyl)-9-carbazole (PPO21) as a host material.

Silver-doped silica reinforced with Aluminium ions

Aluminium ions were used to reinforce the silver-doped silica to enhance its performance. This was attained by utilizing the interaction between the [AlO4]-tetrahedralandtheAg+ in sol-gel process using sodium silicate as a silica precursor. The final product that has Al/Ag=1 was found to be relatively improved compared to its counterpart. We are doing more studies on the innovative application of this novel product.

Polybenzoxazine-Poly(2,5-benzimidazole) (PBOA-ABPBI) Membranes via a PPA Sol-Gel Method for High-Temperature PEM Fuel Cell Applications

Polybenzoxazine-poly(2,5-benzimidazole) (PBOA-ABPBI) as PEMs were prepared via a PPA sol-gel method.

The presence of PBOA in ABPBI membrane enabled to improve the chemical stability and overall efficiency of ABPBI without sacrificing thermal and mechanical stabilities even when such membranes were highly doped with phosphoric acid solution. The covalent linkages between PBOA and ABPBI seems to be formed when BOA was polymerized. Maximum PA content of PBOA-ABPBI membrane was enhanced up to 91 wt%, resulting in high proton conductivity above 0.14 S cm-1 at T=150 oC and anhydrous conditions. The cell voltages of MEA at 150 oC were around 0.65 V at 0.3 A cm-2.

나노촉매의 접촉인쇄를 통한 크기가 제어된 반도체 나노선 연구

본 연구에서는 나노촉매의 접촉인쇄를 통한 직경이 제어된 반도체 나노선 제조가 구현되었다. 양극 산화 알루미나 템플레이트에 수직 배향된 탄소나노튜브를 나노스탬프로 활용하여, 그 위 물리적 방법을 이용하여 금속 촉매층을 형성 하고, 이를 접촉인쇄 방법으로 기판 위에 균일한 촉매 입자층을 형성한다. 이때 형성된 촉매 입자의 크기는 나노스탬프

의 크기에 비례하기 때문에, 스탬프의 크기조절에 의해서 촉매 입자의 크기의 조절을 할 수 있다. 따라서 열적 화학 기 상 증착법을 이용하여, 크기가 균일하게 제어된 촉매 입자 위에 직경이 제어된 일차원 나노구조를 성장시킨다. 이 연구 는 2010년도 정부(교육과학기술부)의 재원으로 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 수행됨(No. R15-2008-006-03002-0 and No. 20090058918).

The kinetic investigation of the formation of polypyrrole nanoparticles in water-soluble stabilizing agent/metal cation systems

A facile way to synthesize polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles is explored on the basis of the formation of complexes between water-soluble stabilizing agent and metal cations in aqueous solution. Major physical parameters affecting the formation of PPy nanoparticles are thoroughly examined, including radius of gyration, hydrodynamic radius, shape factor, and viscosity. By judicious control of these parameters, PPy nanoparticles with narrow size distribution can be readily fabricated in multi-gram scale.

PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF MODIFIED SILICA

Inorganic nano-particles modified with organosilane coupling agents are useful as fillers for rubber composite.

Recently, the nano-silica treated with S4[CH2CH2CH2Si(OEt)3]2 (TESPT) has been widely used as reinforcing fillers in BR based composites. However, it is known that TESPT cannot be completely hydrolyzed in the modification step. its incomplete hydrolysis can cause volatile organic compounds (VOC) in rubber composite.

Thus, we studied the hydrolysis of TESPT and modification of inorganic particles. In this study, the first, TESPT was hydrolyzed and then treated nanosilica affording hydrophobic and reactive modified silica applicable to polymer composite. In addition, we compared the properties of silica-filled SBR in situ with modified silica-filled SBR.

UV Blocking, Antioxidant, Whitening Activities of Ionic Liquid-Mediated Lignin Extract from Wood Powder

Lignin is the second most abundant natural compound. However, because lignin is highly recalcitrant to biotransformation, the industrial use has been limited. For that reason, ionic liquids (ILs) were used to extract lignin from wood powder. We used 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([Emim][CH3COO]) as ILs, which has good extrability of lignin. In order to examine applicability of the extracted lignin as cosmetic materials, we have tested ultraviolet blocking, antioxidant, and whitening effects.

Formation of reactive oxidants during the corrosion process of bimetallic nickel-iron nanoparticles

나노 영가철은 수중 산소와 빠르게 반응하여 4가철 화합물(ferryl ion)이나 수산화라디칼(•OH)과 같은 활성산화제들 을 발생시키며, 이들은 수중 난분해성 유기오염물질들의 산화 분해에 사용될 수 있다. 그러나 첨가한 철의 당량에 대한 활성산화제의 수득율이 낮아 그 적용에 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 두 종류의 니켈-영가철 합금 나노 입자(Ni-Fe alloy and Ni-coated Fe nanoparticles)를 제조하여 다양한 실험 조건에서 나노 영가철과의 활성산화제 수득율을 비 교하였다. 니켈 함량이 증가할수록 활성산화제 수득율이 증가하였는데, 특히 니켈이 코팅된 형태의 합금 나노입자 (Ni-coated Fe)의 경우 균일한 니켈-영가철 합금(Ni-Fe alloy)에 비해 니켈 함량 대비 활성산화제 수득률 증가분이 높게 나타났다.

유기도막시스템을 이용한 리블렛 형성과 도막의 물성 평가

유기도막은 소지의 표면에 밀착하여 외부 환경으로부터 모재를 보호하는 기능을 가진다. 현재는 이러한 기본적인 역 할 이외에도 광학·전기·전자 등 다양한 목적에 적합한 기능을 가지는 기능성 도료가 주목받고 있다. 리블렛은 biomimetics의 한 영역으로 상어 비늘과 같은 표면의 작은 돌기 말하며, 상어와 같이 유체 속에서 동력을 가지는 물체 의 표면 저항을 개선하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 유기 도막을 이용하여 리블렛을 형성시키고, 리블렛 효과를 이용하여 차 량 적용 시, 공기 마찰 저항 감소를 통한 연료 효율 증대 효과가 예상된다. 이번 연구에서는 유기도막을 이용하여 모재 표면에 리블렛 형성과 이 리블렛 코팅의 도막으로서의 물성에 대해 고찰해보고자 한다.

액상직접불소화 반응이 과불소에테르 합성에 미치는 영향

희석불소가스(F2:N2) 농도, 용매(1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane) 투입량, 반응압력 및 시간과 같은 액상직 접불소화 조건이 과불소에테르(perfluronated ether) 화합물의 합성에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 반응 조건에 따 른 과불소에테르 화합물의 구조분석과 합성여부는 FT-IR, NMR 및 GC분석을 통해 확인하였다. FT-IR분석결과로부 터, 과불소에테르 전구체의 CH결합이 2800 cm-1 부근에 나타난 반면, 과불소에테르 화합물은 나타나지 않았고, F-NMR 분석결과, -92 ppm에 새로운 CF2 피크가 확인되었다. 또한 GC분석결과로부터 95%의 고순도 과불소에테 르 화합물을 얻었다.

Synthesis and Luminescence Properties of Er(III)-Cored Dendritic Porphyrin Complexes for Optical Amplification

Two types of dendritic porphyrin ligands ([CO2H]4-G2PZn, [CO2H]2-G1PZn), having different number of – COOH groups on dendritic surface, have been synthesized and complexed with Er3+ for optical amplification.

All the complexes were fully characterized by using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. The results showed that the luminescence intensity of Er3+ ion was increased by occurring an efficient energy transfer process from porphyrin ligand to Er3+ ion. Here, we report on the generation effect of the dendrimers on the complex formation and luminescence properties.

Fabrication of binary colloidal clusters inside emulsion droplets by evaporation-driven self-assembly

에멀젼 액적(emulsion droplets)을 제한 공간으로 활용한 콜로이드 자기 조립 기술은 콜로이드 광자 결정(colloidal photonic crystals), 콜로이드 분자(colloidal clusters) 등의 제조에 활용될 수 있는 방법으로 주목받고 있다. 본 학술 발 표에서는 액적 내부에서 크기 비(size ratio)가 다른 구형 폴리스티렌 입자(polystyrene particle)들의 자기 조립을 위한 유중수 액적(oil-in-water emulsions)의 증발에 따른 모세관 힘(capillary force)을 활용하는 방법을 제시하고 있다. 이 러한 방법으로 이분산(bimodal) 폴리스티렌 입자의 콜로이드 분자를 제조할 수 있었으며, 액적의 증발과 콜로이드 입 자의 자기 조립 과정은 free-ware simulation tool인 Surface Evolver에 의하여 예측되었다.

Binderless ZSM-5 성형체의 자일렌 이성질체 분리흡착 특성 연구

파라자일렌(p-xylene) 분리용 흡착제로서 효과적인 그래뉼 형태의 바인더리스 ZSM-5 성형체를 제조하는 방법을 검토하였다. SiO2/Al2O3=50인 ZSM-5 결정분말에 무기 바인더인 colloidal silica sol 30wt% 용액과 유기첨가물인 microcrystalline cellulose를 첨가하여 구형화한 후, 소성, 바인더리스 처리, NH4+

이온교환, 활성화 등의 과정을 거쳐 충분한 강도(0.721 kgf) 및 높은 결정화도(94.6%)와 넓은 BET 비표면적(379.2 m2/g)을 갖는 흡착제를 제조하였다. 제 조된 성형체의 흡착특성을 평가하기 위해 자일렌 3가지 이성질체를 1:1:1의 무게비로 혼합하여 100 ℃에서 회분식 흡 착실험을 수행한 결과 제조된 바인더리스 ZSM-5 성형체는 상용흡착제보다 파라자일렌에 대해 높은 선택적 흡착성능 을 나타냈다.

Physicochemical and Antimicrobial Properties of Natural Material

The effect of herbal honey on antibacterial activity was examined to the development of novel medicine for atopic dermatitis treatment. The sugar compositions of the herbal honey were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The antibacterial and the antifungal activities of herbal honey were evaluated against various bacteria and fungi. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was examined various concentration against bacteria and fungi. The MIC showed that its values against the bacteria. Based on these results, it is possible to introduction of herbal honey into biomedical fields such as atopic dermatitis treatment.

A Facile Preparation and Optical Properties of Polymethylmethacrylate Nanospheres Coated with CdS Quantum Dots

Recently, semiconductor quantum dots have attracted widespread attention because of their unique properties.

The quantum dots and polymer hosts can provide a long-term stability to the quantum dots. In this work, CdS/polymethylmethacrylate nano-composites were prepared by surfactant-free polymerization with a various pickering emulsifier and their optical characteristics were examined. The CdS/polymethylmethacrylate nano- composites had successfully synthesized and that samples were made a comparison between polymethylmeth- acrylate and polystyrene hosts.

Hybrid coatings having both corrosion protection and wear resistnace by sol-gel process

For the preparation of multi-functional coatings having both corrosion protection and wear resistance, new sol-gel precursors containing anticorrosion functional groups were prepared. The coatings included conventional sol-gel precursor, anticorrosion sol-gel precursor, catalst, and modified epoxy. Depending on the type of sol-gel precursor, content of each ingredient, several coating formulations were prepared and coated on iron and aluminum substrates by either dip-coating or spin-coating, The corrosion protection properties were

investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and slay spray test, and the pencil hardness test was used to measure wear resistance.

Effect of nanoclay on the properties of porous PVdF membrane supports for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells

PVdF membrane supports for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) were prepared by phase inversion method controlling the membrane preparation condition such as retention time and laponite contents.

The resultant of PVdF membrane showed increased mechanical properties and porosities as the increase of laponite contents. Microporous PVdF/laponite composite membranes were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The dispersion degree of PVdF/laponite composite membranes containing various laponite contents was examined using a X-ray diffractometer (XRD).

Electrochemical actuator behavior of poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes composite hydrogels coated with polyaniline

Poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were prepared by radical polymerization and their electrochemical actuator characteristics were studied. The electrical and mechanical properties of the composite hydrogel increased as the content of MWCNT increased. To improve the conductivity of hydrogel, the conducting polyaniline was coated by in situ polymerization. Electrochemical actuation was performed by cyclic voltammetry. The hydrogel showed stepwise bending behavior depending on the electric stimulus. These hydrogels can be applied to the artificial organ components.

A Study on The Solvent Extraction by Functional Water

Some functional water has been interested by its unique properties and their available properties were studied in various scientific fields. Electrolyzed reductive water is high in the osmosis, sterilization, absorptivity and diffusivity and makes immunity of the human body increased. In this research, we have tried to measure extraction rate of functional waters. Dried green tea has been immersed in electrolyzed reductive water, electrolyzed oxidative water and purified tap water at different temperature and then, the absorbance of extracted solution has been measure by UV-vis spectrophotometer. The higher absorbance of extracted solution from electrolyzed reductive water could explain superiority as an extraction solvent.

Novel Aluminum Alkyl Complexes as Catalysts for the Ring Opening Polymerization of ε-Caprolactone

Poly(ε-caprolactone) polymers are biodegradable, biocompatible, and non-toxic materials. Al complexes with many initiating groups such as alkoxy, alkyl, and amide have been used as catalytic centers in the ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone. However, examples of Al complexes containing ligands with more than three binding site are quite rare. Synthesis and characterization of new alkyl aluminum complexes , their controlled polymerizations of ε-caprolactone (CL) will be demonstrated. Their X-ray structures of five aluminum complexes will be also shown. In addition, the linearity of molecular weight versus conversion in the polymerization of CL will be discussed.

Aluminum phosphate bound HZSM-5 catalysts with improved catalytic performances for methanol to propylene (MTP) reaction

The influence of the aluminum phosphate (AP) binder on the acidity and performance of HZSM-5 (SiO2/Al2O3=80, Zeolyst) catalysts in the methanol to propylene (MTP) reaction was studied. The porosity and strong acidity of HZSM-5 catalysts decreased with increasing AP content. It is found that there is an optimum

AP content related to the acidity of HZSM-5 catalyst to obtain higher propylene selectivity. The HZSM-5 catalyst with AP of 10 wt% showed the highest propylene selectivity due to the decrease in strong acidity induced by the phosphorous compounds (H2PO4-).

탄소섬유를 생산하기 위한 신기술에 관한 연구

회분식 마이크로파 플라즈마 탄화장치를 사용하여 안정화된 PAN 전구체로부터 탄소섬유가 생산되었다. 매회 2~6 g의 안정화된 PAN 전구체가 사용되었고 마이크로파 출력이 0.8~2.5 kW 사이에서 변화되었다. 생산된 탄소섬유의 물 성은 탄소섬유의 감량비(%), 밀도(g/cm3), 인장강도(ultimate tensile strength), 탄성율(Young’s modulus) 등의 지표에 의하여 평가되었으며 그 결과를 상용 탄소섬유와 물성과 비교하였다. 탄성율은 상용 탄소섬유의 73.5~89.3%에 불과 하였으나 인장강도는 유사하거나 그 이상이었음이 발견되었다.

We studied therefore the phase equilibria and mixture properties systematically for new gasoline additive, Tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME). In present work, we report the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data at 298.15 K for the ternary systems of TAME (1) + methanol (2) + ILs (3), TAME (1) + ethanol (2) + ILs (3) and TAME (1) + water (2) + ILs (3). The experimental ternary LLE data were correlated with the NRTL and UNIQUAC activity coefficient models.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF CATALYST AGGLOMERATE AND LIQUID WATER TRANSPORT IN PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE FUEL CELLS

A two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) was formulated by taking into account liquid water transport through the membrane-electrode-assembly (MEA) on basis of the agglomerate catalyst framework. Various modes of water transport in PEMFC, including electro-osmotic drag, back diffusion, water generation by oxygen reduction reaction, etc., were considered under existence of three-phase water, i.e. gas-, liquid- and dissolved-phase water. The presented model was validated with cell polarization data taken from experimental data prepared by the authors, representing good agreements. Various parameters were investigated to analyze the influence on cell polarizations and summarized.

Photocatalytic Membrane Reactor Pretreatment for Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination

Membrane fouling is the major hurdle to be resolved in the longtime operation of reverse osmosis (RO) desalination. A TiO2-mediated photocatalytic membrane reactor pretreatment is expected to control the fouling of RO membrane for seawater desalination. In this study, we investigated the photocatalytic degradation of seawater organic matter (SOM) during submerged photocatalytic membrane reactor treatment prior to seawater reverse osmosis filtration. Although photocatalytic pretreatments did not achieve a remarkable improvement in SWRO flux, it still had the potential to reduce fouling caused by SOM.
