She has to wait for the next bus. 3인칭단수 현재 그녀는 그 다음 버스를 기다려야 한다. has to They had to walk home. 과거는 had to 그들은 집에 걸어가야 했다.

② don’t have to : ~할 필요가 없다
= don’t need to = need not You don’t have to worry.

Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 목적 (~하기 위해)
① “~하기 위하여” 해석만 잘하면 된다!
He studied hard to pass the exam.
= in order to pass the exam.
= so as to pass the exam. 무조건 목적
= so that he could pass the exam.
= in order that he could pass the exam.
= with a view to passing the exam.
= for the purpose of passing the exam.
그는 시험에 합격하기 위해 열심히 공부했다.
He hurried not to miss the bus.
= in order not to miss the bus.
= so as not to miss the bus.
= lest (that) he (should) miss the bus.
= for the fear that he (should) miss the bus.
= for the fear of missing the bus.
그는 버스를 놓치지 않기 위해서 서둘렀다.
② 조심해야할 경우
to 부정사가 문장 앞에 있을 때 - To be a lawyer, he studied hard.
comma(,)와 별도의 주어가 있으면 부사적 용법 변호사가 되기 위하여, 그는 열심히 공부했다.
- To be a lawyer is his dream.
하나의 문장일 때는 주로 명사적 용법 변호사가 되는 것은 그의 꿈이다.
-He made a plan to finish the work. (언어의 중의성) 그는 그 일을 끝내기 위하여 계획을 세웠다.
(부사적 용법: 목적)
그는 그 일을 끝내기 위한 계획을 세웠다. (형용사적 용법)
일단은 학교 선생님의 해석대로 따라가는 게 편하다.
Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 결과 (결과적으로 ~되었다) She lived to be 99. 그는 99세까지 살았다.
= lived and became
He grew up to be a doctor. 그는 자라서 의사가 되었다.
= grew up and became
They awoke up to find themselves famous.
그들은 깨어서 자신들이 유명해진 것을 발견했다.
He studied hard, only to fail. = but (he) failed 그는 열심히 노력했지만 결국 실패했다.
Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 이유/판단의 근거 (~하다니) She must be crazy to marry him.
그와 결혼하다니 그녀는 틀림없이 미쳤을 것이다.
He may be crazy to do such a thing.
그런 짓을 하다니 그는 아마도 미쳤을지도 모른다.
They are crazy to say so.
그렇게 말하다니 그들은 미쳤다.

Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 양보 (비록 ~했으나)
반드시 부정적 결과!
To study hard, I couldn't get good grades.
= Though I studied hard, ~
비록 열심히 공부했지만, 나는 좋은 성적을 거둘 수 없었다.
To get good grades, I studied hard.
좋은 성적을 얻기 위해, 나는 열심히 공부했다.
Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 한정/형용사 수식 (~하기에)
가주어 의미상주어 진주어 → 명사적 용법 It is dangerous (for us) to drink this water.
(우리가) 이 물을 마시는 것은 위험하다.
This water is dangerous (for us) to drink.
형용사 수식: ~하기에 이 물은 (우리가) 마시기에 위험하다.
It is not safe to swim in this river. → 명사적 용법 This river is not safe to swim in.
전치사 in 이 없으면 어법상 잘못된 문장이다.
이 강은 수영하기에 안전하지 않다.
Ë to 부정사의 부사적 용법: 정도
① enough to : ~할 만큼 충분히 …한 주어도 같다!
He is so clever that he can solve the problem.
현재-시제조심!
= He is clever enough to solve the problem.
그는 그 문제를 풀 만큼 충분히 똑똑하다.
주어 다름
The problem was so easy that he could solve it.
과거!
= The problem was easy enough for him to solve it.
solve할 대상이 앞에 있으므로 it을 쓸 필요가 없다.
그 문제는 그가 풀기에 충분히 쉬웠다.
② too … to ~ : ~할 만큼 충분히 …한
He is so weak that he can't lift the stone.
= He is too weak to lift the stone.
그는 그 돌을 들기에는 너무 약하다.
The stone was so heavy that he couldn't lift it.
= The stone was too heavy for him to lift it.
그 돌은 그가 들어올리기에 너무 무거웠다.

ⓐ 주어로 쓰인 경우 동명사주어 단수취급
Reading comic bookⓢ is fun.
만화책을 읽는 것은 재있다.
→ It is fun reading comic books.
(동명사를 진주어로 쓰는 것에 대한 논쟁이 있습니다.)
Reading comic books, he was listening to music.
만화책을 읽으면서, 그는 음악을 듣고 있다.(분사구문 )
ⓑ 주격 보어로 쓰인 경우
His hobby is reading comic books.
사물 주어 → 동명사 내 취미는 만화책을 읽는 것이다.
He is reading comic books. 그는 만화책을
사람 주어 → 현재분사 읽고 있는 중이다.
ⓒ 동사의 목적어로 쓰인 경우 He enjoyed playing PC games.
그는 컴퓨터 게임하는 것을 즐겼다.
He sat reading comic books.
동명사를 목적어로 취하는 동사 ✖ 그는 만화책을 읽으면서 앉아 있었다.
I think it unpleasant walking in the rain.
가목적어 진목적어
나는 비를 맞고 걷는 것을 불쾌하다고 생각한다.

ⓓ 전치사의 목적어로 쓰인 경우
He is interested in playing "L.O.L."
그는 롤을 하는 것에 흥미가 있다. play의 목적어가 있다!
She is looking for interesting stories. ~하게 하는 그녀는 흥미로운 이야기를 찾고 있다. → 현재분사
ⓔ 용도를 나타내는 경우
The waiting room was crowded.대기실은 붐볐다.
기다리는 데 쓰이는 (용도) → 동명사
The waiting boy over there is my cousin.
저기에서 기다리는 소년은 내 사촌이다. → 현재분사
