Andrés Rebolledo was appointed as the new minister of Energy by President Bachelet on October 19th. The Ministry of Energy is among the government institutions with highest evaluation during the administration of President Michelle Bachelet (2014-2018).
Former minister Maximo Pacheco presented his resignation to assume other activities related to his political career.
Minister Andrés Rebolledo is well known for his part in the negotiation of several commercial agreements. He holds a degree in commercial engineering by the University of Chile, and graduate studies in international economy from University Complutense of Madrid. In terms of professional background, his last post was General Director of International Economic Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this later institution, Andrés Rebolledo acted as negociator on behalf of Chile in various processes.

Minister of Energy Andres Rebolledo confirms Renewable Energy as a Priority for his Office
The recently appointed minister of energy Andres Rebolledo, confirmed that one of the priorities of his office will be the promotion of renewable energies to increase their share in the energy matrix of Chile. According to Minister Rebolledo “this element could give the country a comparative advantage provided the efforts of numerous actors to develop relevant technology in the field of renewable energy”. Among the actors that had joined the Ministry of Energy in such endeavor are the Corporación de Fomento –CORFO, different universities and research centers as well as stakeholders from the private sector.

Minister of Energy Andres Rebolledo considers “regional interconnection” as one of the top pillars of his administration.
Currently, Chile has experience in trading electricity with Argentina, a neighboring country from which also has imported gas in the past. A new interconnection with Peru is being discussed, as building the infrastructure would cost at least 70 US$ million.
The background in international negotiations held by Minister Rebolledo is considered an asset in promoting and reaching agreements between Chile and other countries, in this case in the field of energy.

Daniele Schillaci, the CEO of an international car producing company, considers that Chile could be a pioneer nation in Latin America in the widespread growth of the use of electric cars. This businessman mentioned as one of the main reasons for his claim, the efforts Chile has done to decontaminate and apply technology for environmental sustainability. Chile promotes policies to decrease gas emissions and it will likely make this country a regional leader in environmentally friendly practices. Another reason referred by the expert, was the potential of lithium reserves in the country, which makes Chile an attractive nation for future investment with an interesting mix of energy and top technology.

The rapid progress of Renewable Energies in Chile
The Chacao Bridge is a mega-project to unite the continental land of Chile with the Big Island of Chiloe. It is being built by the Chacao Consortium, in which Hyundai Construction holds a significant share. Different situations have caused delays in the commencement of the works; however authorities of the Ministry of Public Work have confirmed they will begin before December, 2015. The construction is also in the process to incorporate anti- seismic measures.

Government of Chile opens the preliminary public bid process to build the Aguas Negras tunel with Argentina
It will take a 13.9 km. perforation of the Andean mountains to open a two-ways round between Argentina and Chile. This project is known as Aguas Negras, and forms one out of 26 official passages between the two countries. The cost is estimated in US$ 1,414 million and will have financial support of both governments and the Inter-American Development Bank IDB. This passage registered a transit of 37,000 people in 2013 –according to the Ambassador of Argentina in Chile, the same figure in 2016 is estimated in 70,000.
