Many young people are looking for jobs, but often to no avail. There are various reasons they can fail to land a job. Youth unemployment in Korea is high because of the sluggish economy. People are highly motivated to work, but there aren't enough job openings. Sometimes, a person might feel unhappy even after they find employment. The work might not suit them. In these cases, people get back in the job market, or even start their own business. Many people have found success with food trucks, app development, and original inventions. Start-ups are a hot topic these days. Launching a business can be risky. However, the government offers support including
financial aid for new businesses.

많은 젊은이들이 구직을 하고 있지만 실패하는 경우가 많다. 구직에 실패하는 원인은 여러 가지가 있다. 경기 침체 로 인해 한국의 청년 실업률이 높은 수준이다. 일을 하려는 의욕은 넘치는데 일자리가 부족하다. 때로는 채용이 되 고도 불만족스러울 수 있다. 일이 적성에 맞지 않을 수도 있다. 이런 경우에는 다시 취업 시장에 뛰어들거나 자기 사업을 시작하기도 한다. 많은 사람들이 푸드 트럭, 앱 개발, 혹은 독창적인 발명 등으로 성공을 했다. 요즘은 이러 한 신생 창업 기업들이 화제다. 사업을 시작하는 데는 위험이 따른다. 하지만 정부에서 신생 기업들을 위해 재정 지원 등의 도움을 제공하고 있다.

[Speaking Tips]
to no avail 헛되이, 소용없이
avail이란 단어는 이 표현 외에는 자주 사용하는 단어가 아니다. 하지만 available이라는 단어가 무언가를 사용할 수 있거나, 구할 수 있거나, 도움이 된다는 뜻임을 감안하면, to no avail이라는 표현을 쉽게 기억할 수 있을 것이 다.
예) I tried to open the door, but to no avail. (나는 문을 열어 보려고 했지만 소용이 없었다.)
We tried to persuade her, but to no avail. (우리는 그녀를 설득해 보려고 노력했지만 소용이 없었다.)
