A B S T R A C T Acyl-CoA b ind ing protein s (ACBP) are small highly-conserved cytosolic p ro teins that bind lon g-chain acyl-CoAs. A c DNA en cod ing ACBP was iden tified fro m cDNA libra ry co ns tructed fro m hairy ro ot p oly A+ RNA in expressed seq uen ce tag s (EST) analysis. The cDNA clo ne was 4 53 bp lo ng and carried an o pen read ing frame of 2 6 4 bp (1 0 k Da). Th e ginseng ACBP amin o acid seq uen ce was co mp ared with o th er repo rted plant ACBPs us in g th e CLUSTALW. Gins eng ACBP is 8 9%, 81 %, 8 0 %, an d 7 3% id entica l with ACBP from casto r bean , lilly, D i g i t a l i s a nd A r a b i d o p s i s, resp ectively . Ho wever, g inseng ACBP is 5 amin o acids smaller than A r a b i d o p s i s an d rap e se ed ACBPs. Als o there is n o an y kno wn sign al pep tide s equ ence in g inseng ACBP.
