① 비교급 than
Tom is not as tall as Bill. not as 원급 as Tom은 Bill만큼 크지 않다.
= Tom is not so tall as Bill. not so 원급 as
= Tom is shorter than Bill. 비교급 than Tom은 Bill보다 작다.
= Bill is taller than Tom. 비교급 than Bill은 Tom보다 크다.
= Tom is less tall than Bill. less 원급 than Tom이 Bill보다 덜 크다.
② than 주격 / than 목적격
He loves you more than she (loves you).
그는 그녀(가 널 사랑하는 것)보다 널 더 사랑한다.
He loves you more than (he loves) her.
그는 그녀(를 사랑하는 것)보다 널 더 사랑한다.
③ 동일인 비교
He is wiser than you. 그는 너보다 더 현명하다.
He is more wise than clever.
그는 똑똑하기 보다는 현명하다.
Ë 비교급 강조 (+원급 강조, 최상급 강조)
① much, still, a lot, even, far는 비교급강조/ very✖
Johann is much taller than Bill.
Johann은 Bill보다 훨씬 더 크다.
② very, quite, extremely, absolutely, exactly는 원급 강조 Johann is very tall. Johann은 매우 크다.
③ much, by far, very 최상급 강조 Jake is the very tallest in the class.
= Jake is by far the tallest in the class.
Jake는 반에서 진짜 가장 키가 크다.
Ë 비교급의 활용
① the 비교급, the 비교급
The higher we go up, the colder it becomes.
우리가 더 높이 올라갈수록, 더 추워진다.
= As we go up higher, it becomes colder.
우리가 더 높이 올라감에 따라, 더 추워진다.
② 비교급 and 비교급
It’s getting hotter and hotter.
날씨가 점점 더 더워지고 있다.
③ 라틴어 비교급
superior to ~보다 우월한 inferior to ~보다 열등한 senior to ~보다 연상의 junior to ~보다 연하의
④ the 비교급 of the two. (최상급) Tom is the taller of the two.
톰은 둘 중에서 더 크다(제일 크다).
