His Excellency Zacharie PEREVET, Minister of Employment and Vocational Training;

Bernard Okalia Bilai, The Governor of the South West Region;

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests;

Ladies and Gentlemen;

It’s a great pleasure and honor for me to welcome you on this groundbreaking ceremony of Limbe advanced vocational training center following the event in Samelima the weeks ago.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your presence.

Now we are on a great journey to the Cameroon’s promising future in 2035, through the three advanced vocational training center. Today we are at the middle of journey to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone of the Limbe Center.

Since the Korean embassy reopened in 2008, political and economic cooperation between Korean and Cameroon has been greatly promoted. The construction of advanced

vocational training centers is a good example of this expanded bilateral cooperation.

All the centers are being established with goals of improving vocational skills and the quality of technique for Cameroonian.

It will support Cameroon government’s endeavor to development capability for the vocational training with qualified training facilities and advanced expertise.

Through this project, we all hope that high-technologies in all economic spheres will be transferred from Korea to Cameroon to serve as the technical base which will in turn trigger the country’s industrialization and empower it to stand on its own in the future. I believe the medium and long term effects will be satisfactory as the expected results are the creation of jobs and the alleviation of poverty. In addition, training Cameroonians in the right skills will be conducive for foreign investment, currently being promoted by the Cameroonian Government considering fact that investors need the assurance of the availability of plenty of local skilled labour.

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Given its multifunctional aspects of industry such as petrochemical, shipyard and tourism, The Limbe center will be operated with 8 assured courses that are suitable for Limbe’s economy including Welding, Electricity, Mechanics, Hotel &

Tourism and 4 other courses through regular and short term training sessions. The regular training sessions will last for a year while the short term training sessions will range from three (3) to nine (9) months on a total of 480 trainees for a year.

I certainly believe that each trainee will carry out an important role for Cameroon’s economic development with experienced technique. In addition, I expect that this center will be a cradle where the right technicians are trained for Cameroon’s prosperity.

Korea is committed to sharing its vocational training experience with Cameroon in order to develop the quality of the country’s vocational training system as underlined by the Cameroonian Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, during his New Year message to the Nation on December 31, 2011, as I quote

“…we must increasingly rely on our own efforts and draw inspiration from the experience of emerging countries… to …ensure Cameroon’s

economic take-off, in the vein of the new Asian “dragons” some thirty years ago.” End of quote.

The Korean government is taking this project very seriously while looking forward to yet another official launching of the Douala Vocational Training Centers tomorrow.

2012 is the year of materialization of the cooperation between Korea and Cameroon. We hope that every step taken towards this cooperation will be complimented with satisfactory results.

Thank you for your kind attention!!!
