Statement by Amb. IM Han-taek (Sep. 17) Thank you. Mr. President,.
First of all, let me join the previous speakers in congratulating you on the successful adoption of the annual report. This was possible thanks to your distinguished leadership as well as to the spirit of compromise and flexibility shown by member states. My gratitude also goes to the other P-6 members for their tireless efforts, throughout the year, to bring the Conference out of its decade-long hibernation and throughout the year which resultedto create the conditions for in the history-making adoption of the program of work (CD/1864). Although we could were not able to embark on substantive work this year to implement CD/1864, which is truly regrettable, I believe we have laid out solid foundations for our future work by dispelling the chronic atmosphere of inertia.
Mr. President,
Regarding the annual report, lLike many other delegations, my delegation was also hoping for a wanted more forward-lookingambitious oneannual report which contains containing an encouraging message to the international community on the continuity of our work based upon CD/1864. However, at the same time, given the clear limit to what we can achieve at the CD level, my delegation believed believes it was no less important to carry forwardmaintain the amicable atmosphere which led to the adoption of CD/1864. In this regard, my delegationwe supported the elements of the report we have just adopted, and would like to commend the accommodating manner in in which CD member states have shown in you have shown throughout tcondconductingeded the consultations on the annual report.

To this end, I believe that, throughout during the inter-sessional period, including the First Committee in New York, there should be much uninterruptedtmost efforts should be exerted to reinvigorate the positive spirit, which we have which we have sharedwitnessed when the Conference adopted the CD/1864 on May 29th.
