A Synthesis of a , a 9 a -Trimethyloltoluene

고분자물질을 합성하는데 폭넓게 이용될 있는 monomer af a, a-Trimethyloltoluene (4) 합성 은 1983[에 보고되었다. Ethyl-2-phenylmalonate(1) 로부터 3단계에 걸쳐 이루어진 4의 합성은 2.3%

수율 밖에 되지 않았으며, Lithium aluminum hyd- ride(LAH)로 a, a, a-Triethoxycarbonyltoluene(2) 을 환원하는데는 alumina salt가 생겨서 3을 추출

하는데 어려운 점이 있었다(SJ诚彻。1).

연구는 Cannizzaro Reaction2,3의 해Ca(OH)2 촉매하에서 Phenylacetaldehyde와 Paraformaldeh- yde로부터 4 합성하였으며 2), 반응조건

반응온도에 따른 결과를 Table 1에 나타내었다.

Pyrex 유리로만든 반응용기에 Paraformaldehyde (40mmol), Ca(OH)2 (40 mmol), Phenylacetalde- hyde(10mmol), THF(15m/) 용매를 넣고 가스를 없앤다음(3-freeze-pump-thaw cycle) 진공하에서 (0.03 mmHg) 반응용기 끝을 밀폐시켰다. 60~65t 48시간 자석젓게로 저어준 다음 냉각시켜, 여과 한 후 Kugelrohr 증류(145°〜 150t, 0.1 mmHg) 였을 최적의 조건(mp. 80〜82t, 76%)이였으며, 60~65t보다 낮은 온도에서는 부분적인 aldehyde 생성되었고, 보다높은온도에서는고분자 물질의 부생성물이 각각 나타남을 확인하였다.
