031.001 글쓰기의 기초 3-3-0
College Writing: Process & Structure 학생들의 글쓰기 능력을 증진시킴으로써 대학에서의 학습에 도 움을 주고 사회에 나아가 지성인으로서 활동하는 데에 바탕이 되 도록 한다. 구체적인 학습 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국어 및 한국어 문장에 대한 지식을 익히고 글쓰기 실습을 함으로써 자신 의 생각을 분명하게 글로 표현할 수 있도록 한다. 둘째, 타인의 글 읽기를 통하여 인문학적 소양을 높이고 이를 바탕으로 자신의 견해를 논리적으로 표현할 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, 발표 및 토론 학습을 통해 다른 사람의 생각을 정확히 이해하고 자기의 의견을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있도록 한다.
This course has three goals. First of all, it will help stu- dents accurately express themselves in written Korean.
Second, it will help them gain a good foundation in the hu- manities through readings, while training them to express their views logically. Finally, the course will teach students to accurately understand others’ opinions and effectively ex- press their opinions through presentations and discussions.
031.002 인문학 글쓰기 3-3-0 Writing in Humanities
스스로의 생각을 정리해 글을 쓰는 경험, 또한 자기 글을 공개 적으로 비평받는 경험을 제공하는 수업이다. 이를 통해 한 주제에 대해 사고하는 능력을 키우고 또한 자신의 글이 독자들에게 어떻 게 받아들여지는지 체험함으로써 글을 통한 의사소통 능력을 키우 고자 한다. 자기소개서, 감상에세이, 특정 주제에 대한 에세이, 설 득이나 제안을 위한 에세이, 소논문 요약본, 소논문 등 다양한 종 류의 글을 쓰게 되며 모든 글은 강사와 조교, 동료수강생들의 피 드백을 받는다.
This course aims to strengthen students’ communication ability through writing. Students write essays and papers, which include self-introduction, their own opinion on social issues, book review or cinema review, summary and critical assessment of academic articles, etc. In classroom each stu- dents get readers’(other students’) feedback and discuss prob- lems of their writing.
031.003 사회과학 글쓰기 3-3-0 Writing in Social Sciences
인간 개개인과 인간들의 집단이나 조직 혹은 그들에 의해 전개 되는 사회현상과 가치를 연구하는 계열학문이 사회과학이다. 따라 서 사회과학 글쓰기는 사회과학에 대한 명확한 이해를 바탕으로 사회의 현상이나 가치를 연구하기 위해 분석적으로 독서하고 정확 하게 검증하며 논리적 주장을 전개하는 학술적 글쓰기를 익히는 것을 목표로 한다.
Social science is the faculty which researches on in- dividuals and social groups, organizations or social phenom- ena and virtues formed from them. Therefore the writing in social science aims at the learning of scientific writing, i.e.
analytic reading, precise verification and logical assertion, in order to research on social phenomena and virtues on the basis of clear understanding the social science.

Writing in Science & Technology
이 강좌는 과학 기술과 관련한 주제들에 관해 한 편의 소논문
을 쓰는 전 과정을 요구한다. 이를 위해 수강생들은 관련 주제를 탐색하고 이에 대한 자신의 주장과 가설을 세우고 충분한 자료와 근거에 입각하여 논증하는 연습을 해야 한다. 오늘날 사회는 창의 적인 문제해결능력과 합리적 의사소통능력을 요구하고 있다. 이 강좌는 이에 부응하기 위한 일환으로 창의성과 비판적 사고, 정확 한 표현능력 등을 글쓰기를 통해 향상시키는 데 그 목적을 두고 있다.
This course offers the experience of whole process for writing an essay. All members of this class should search the topics concerned with natural science & technology and set up the own hypothesis and assertion. For this, students try to argue own position based on the appropriate materials
& inference. Today society demands the creative prob- lem-solving & rational communicating ability. Satisfying this demand, this course aims to improve the ability of creativity, critical thinking & adequate expression through writing.
031.031 말하기와 토론 3-3-0 Speech and Debate
이 교과목은 ‘공적 말하기’와 ‘토론’을 학습한다. 말하기란 자신 의 인격, 신념, 정서를 말에 담아, 남의 생각과 의견을 이끌어 내 고, 이 과정에서 자신의 생각과 말을 수정할 수 있는 쌍방향의 소 통과정이다. 합리적 의사소통은 자신의 말에 책임을 지는 윤리의식 과 상대방의 말을 경청하는 적극적 과정 속에서 이루어진다. 말을 잘한다는 것은 단순히 유창한 말하기 기술을 의미하는 것이 아니 라는 것이다. 이 교과목에서는 말하기의 이론과 실습을 함께 공부 한다. 특히 다양한 유형의 말하기 실습을 통해 합리적이고 책임 있 는 의사소통을 위한 실질적 능력을 배양하도록 한다. 실습은 자신 의 말하기 습관과 태도에 대한 성찰을 기초로 공적인 상황에서의 자기소개, 이해와 공감을 끌어내는 발표, 설득을 위한 말하기, 그리 고 토론의 네 가지 유형으로 이루어진다. 두 번의 토론 실습으로 토론의 원리와 목표에 대한 이해를 심층화하고 실질적 실력을 배 양하도록 한다. 각 발표실습은 1) 원고 준비와 청중 분석, 2) 사전 연습, 3) 교실 실습, 4) 평가와 성찰의 네 단계로 구성된다. 실습 은 조별 혹은 개인별 활동으로 이루어진다. 말하기 이론 수업은 말 하기 주제나 소재의 선택, 내용 구성, 논리 전개 학습을 위해 수사 학, 커뮤니케이션학, 스토리텔링, 대화분석 등의 이론을 포함한다.
그러나 이러한 이론 수업은 강의를 통해 이루어지기 보다는, 발표 실습 준비, 실습 후 평가 과정에서 구체적으로 제시된다.
This is an optional Korean language course for mainly the first year students. However, it is not restricted for seniors to take this course. Students will learn and practice commu- nication skills for the academic and public settings with par- ticular focus on production skills of discussion, presentation, and debate. Students are required to do a variety of in- dividual and group activities. Also, students are required to prepare speech writings and to deliver an personal in- troductory speech, an informative speech, a persuasive speech, and do two times of group debates. In doing these activities, students will also increase phonological awareness, and learn the importance of critical thinking skills for their communication confidence and proficiency.
031.032 창의적 사고와 표현 3-3-0 Critical Thinking and Expression
오늘날 대학교육에서 가장 절실하게 요구되는 것들 중 하나는 창의성 교육이다. 본 교과목은 특정 주제를 중심으로 다양한 의사 소통능력을 연습하고 이를 통해 궁극적으로 창의적 사고를 배양하 는데 그 목적이 있다. 따라서 해당 주제와 관련된 다양한 텍스트
를 읽고 토론하며, 글쓰기를 포함한 다양한 표현을 연습하되 그 궁극적 목적은 해당 교재에 내용에 대한 엄밀한 학술적 이해에 있 기 보다는 그 내용을 바탕으로 창의적 사고를 배양하는 데 있다.
Critical thinking is one of the most highly claimed ability for university students, but has been largely ignored. ‘Critical Thinking and Expression’ aims to develop the critical think- ing ability, providing various opportunities of communication on a given subject. Students are asked to read actively rele- vant texts, to discuss their interpretations of texts and to ex- press their opinion via writing and other communicative means. Independent and liberal attitude is more emphasized rather than academically correct understanding.
031.033 논리와 비판적 사고 3-3-0 Logic and Critical Thinking
철학적 사고, 비판적 사고의 핵심적 특성은 논리적이라는 것이 다. 오늘날 그 중요성이 더욱 높아지고 있는 정보의 조직적 정리 능력 및 합리적 사고능력의 개발에 있어서 논리적 사고의 훈련은 긴요하다. 본 과목은 그에 대한 초보적 훈련을 제공하는 것을 목적 으로 한다. 그 다루는 내용은 일상언어의 기반 위에서 이루어진 전통적 아리스토텔레스 논리학에서부터 전통논리학의 새로운 해석 과 기호화를 통해 이루어진 현대 기호논리학 즉 명제논리와 술어 논리 등 기호이치논리학 전반에 이른다. 이 과정에서 논리학의 구 문론적 접근과 의미론적 접근의 비교설명도 덧붙여진다.
Being logical is what characterizes philosophical and re- flective thinking. Thus, this course aims to train students in logical thinking, based on the basic understanding of how ar- guments are constructed. In the course, students will study formal principles in constructing proper arguments and exam- ine various practical arguments concerning ethics, juris- prudence, philosophy and social sciences.
032.001 초급한국어 2-3-0 Elementary Korean
이 과목은 한국어에 대한 지식이 전혀 없는 학부생을 대상으로 하여 한국에 대한 이해를 돕고 한국에서의 최소한의 일상생활을 가능하게 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 능동적인 의사소통 능력을 기 르기 위한 준비 단계로서 기본 어휘, 문법, 발음, 문장구조 등에 익숙하게 하고 확장된 어휘와 문법을 다양한 기능 및 상황을 통해 활용함으로써 기본적인 의사소통 능력을 기르게 한다.
한글 자모 읽기와 한국어 문장 읽기에서부터 시작하는 본 강의 는 이후 다양한 한국의 문화적 사실을 기반으로 해서 기본 어휘 익히기와 기본 문형 익히기로 범위를 확장하면서 한국어뿐만 아니 라 한국문화에 대한 지식을 습득할 수 있게 한다.
이 강의를 이수한 학생은 <중급한국어>와 <고급한국어> 강좌 를 연속적으로 수강함으로써 다양한 한국문화에 대한 심도 있는 지식을 얻음과 동시에, 고급 수준의 한국어를 읽고 쓸 수 있는 능 력을 기를 수 있다.
This course is designed for undergraduate foreign students without any prior knowledges on Korean language. The goal of this course is (1) to provide students with better under- standing of Korean culture, and (2) to promote useful skills for expressing and communicating in Korean language.
This course begins with learning Korean alphabet, first level vocabulary, and then leads students into grammar, pro- nunciation, and sentence structure. Mid-level training for pro- moting active communication skills will be also given; ex- tended vocabulary, extended grammar with reading and speaking in various situations.
032.002 중급한국어 1 3-3-0 Intermediate Korean 1
본 과목은 외국인 학생을 대상으로 하는 과목으로서, 다음과 같 은 초·중급의 한국어 능력을 기르는 것을 목표로 한다. -대학의 강 의와 발표의 청취 능력. -대학 강의 노트 작성 능력, -주관식 답안 작성 능력. -초·중급의 일상생활 회화 능력. -초·중급의 문서 작성 능력. 이를 위해 실제 대학 강의에 높은 빈도로 등장하는 여러 가 지 구어 표현들을 익히며, 대학 강의 노트를 작성하는 데 유용한 표현들에 대해서도 공부하고, 짧은 주관식 답안을 작성하는 요령 도 익혀서 실습한다. 또한 여러 가지 시청각 자료를 통하여 일상 생활에서 사용되는 유용한 표현들을 경험함으로써 일상생활 회화 능력을 향상시키고, 일상생활 및 대학 생활에서 접하게 되는 문서 들을 직접 작성해 봄으로써 실용적인 문서 작성 능력을 익히도록 한다.
This course aims to help foreign students acquire the fol- lowing low-mid level skills for Korean. -ability to compre- hend university-level lectures and class presentations. -ability to make a note for lectures. -ability to make an answer for essay questions. -ability to conduct low-mid level everyday conversation. Students learn a variety of colloquial ex- pressions commonly used in university-level lectures, useful expressions for lecture notes, and skills for making an an- swer for essay questions. By using audiovisual materials, stu- dents can improve their ability to conduct everyday con- versation in Korean.
032.003 중급한국어 2 3-3-0 Intermediate Korean 2
본 과목은 외국인 학생을 대상으로 하는 과목으로서, 다음과 같 은 중·고급의 한국어 능력을 기르는 것을 목표로 한다. -질문, 답 변, 토론 등 학생의 강의 참여 능력. -대중 매체 청취 능력. -중고 급의 일상생활 회화능력 -중고급의 문서 작성 능력 대학 강의에 적극적으로 참여할 수 있는 기본적인 능력을 향상시키기 위하여 질문하고, 대답하고, 토론하는 데 유용한 표현들을 익히고, 나아가 실제로 이러한 표현들을 사용하는 연습을 한다. 또한 라디오, TV, 영화 등의 대중 매체로부터 정보를 신속하게 얻는 능력을 향상시 키기 위하여 이들 매체들에서 빈번하게 사용되는 표현들을 익히 고, 나아가 이들 매체를 실제로 청취하는 연습을 한다. 그리고 일 상 생활 회화 능력과 문서 작성 능력을 보다 향상시켜 중고급 수 준의 능력을 갖추도록 한다.
This course aims to help foreign students acquire the fol- lowing mid-high level skills for Korean. -ability to partic- ipate in questioning, answering and discussing -ability to comprehend mass media -ability to conduct mid-high level everyday conversation -ability to prepare mid-high level document Students learn a variety of useful expressions com- monly used in questioning, answering, and discussing in a class, and practice how to use those expressions. They also study lots of useful expressions frequently used in mass me- dia such as radio, TV and movies, and practice how to com- prehend those mass media. Furthermore, students will have mid-high level proficiency for everyday conversation and documentation.
032.004 고급한국어 3-3-0 Advanced Korean
본 과목은 외국인 학생을 대상으로 하는 과목으로서 다음과 같 은 고급 한국어 능력을 기르는 것을 목표로 한다. 신문 기사 및
잡지의 독해 능력 한국의 사회, 문화, 역사 관련 문헌 텍스트 독 해 능력 구두 발표 능력 한국어 실용문 해독력 이를 위해 신문을 비롯한 여러가지 한국어 텍스트를 분석하고 요약하며 자신의 견해 를 발표하는 연습을 한다. 나아가 교수와 학생, 학생 상호간의 토 론을 실시한다. 10분 구두 발표를 위한 발표문 준비와 실제 구두 발표를 실습하며, 여러가지 계획서, 자기소개서, 레포트 등 대학 생활과 관련된 실용문들의 이해와 작성도 연습한다.
The aim of this course is to help foreign students acquire the following advanced-level Korean skills: - ability to com- prehend newspaper and magazine articles - ability to compre- hend texts on the society, culture, and history of Korea - ability to give oral presentations - ability to comprehend a variety of practical texts in Korean. Students will practice analyzing, summarizing, and orally presenting their responses to a variety of Korean texts including newspaper articles. In addition, they will hold discussions both among themselves and with the instructor. Students will also prepare 10-minute oral presentations and practice writing diverse texts related to college life such as study/research plans, self-introductions, and academic papers
032.005 초급한문 1 3-3-0
Elementary Classical Chinese 1
본 교과목은 한자와 한문에 대해 거의 모르는 초보자를 위한 강좌로 한문에 대한 기초적인 이해와 지식의 배양에 중점을 둔다.
여기서는 한문의 품사와 기본 구조 등 문법에 대한 기초적인 이해 를 기반으로 짧고 기본적인 구문이나 시가 등을 정밀하게 분석하 고 감상한다. 이를 통해 기초적인 한문 독해력을 배양하며, 아울러 과제 등의 방식으로 일상생활에 쓰이는 한자어 실력도 증진시키고 자 한다.
This course is designed to provide students who have no prior knowledge of Chinese characters and Classical Chinese with the basic understanding of Classical Chinese. After learning the basic grammar and sentence structure of Classical Chinese, students will analyze short sentences and learn to appreciate classical poetry. Through such exercises, students will improve reading skills in Classical Chinese, as well as learn idiomatic phrases for daily usage.

Elementary Classical Chinese 2
본 교과목은 초급한문1에 이어진 기초 한문 강좌로 기존의 한 문1과 한문2 사이의 수준차를 완화하고 효율적인 학습을 도모하 기 위해 개설된 강좌이다. 초급한문1에서 학습한 지식을 바탕으로 한문의 주요한 문형과 허사 등에 대한 이해를 추가하여 한문 문법 에 대한 이해를 심화하고 이를 기반으로 단문 독해 연습을 집중적 으로 한다. 중국은 물론 우리나라의 다양한 문장과 시가를 분석하 고 감상함으로써 기초적인 한문 독해력을 배양하고 아울러 선인들 의 사상과 동양문화에 대한 이해를 증진시키는 계기를 제공하고자 한다. 본 강좌를 통해 초급 수준의 한문 실력을 충실히 배양하게 되면 중급 이상의 한문 강좌를 수강하는데 무리가 없을 것이다.
This course is designed for students who have already taken Elementary Classical Chinese 1 or its equivalent. This course is newly offered to bridge the gap between the ele- mentary and the intermediate level. Based on the skills gained in Elementary Classical Chinese 1, students will learn major sentence patterns and grammar particles to further their understanding of Classical Chinese grammar. Students will practice with short passages from classical poems and
prose of China and Korea. Students will thereby improve their reading skills in Classical Chinese and deepen under- standing of East Asian thought. Students who have success- fully completed this course may proceed to take Intermediate Classical Chinese.
032.007 중급한문 3-3-0
Intermediate Classical Chinese
본 교과목은 초급한문1과 초급한문2에 이은 중급수준의 한문 강좌이다. 초급 한문 과정에서 다져진 기초 실력을 바탕으로 한문 에 대한 이해를 심화하고 보다 발전된 한문 독해 실력을 배양하는 과정이다. 여기에서는 보다 완결된 형태의 문학, 철학, 역사 등 다 방면의 고전 산문 문장과 시가 작품들을 익힐 수 있다. 이를 통해 한문 문법 지식을 체화하고 구문에 익숙해지도록 함과 동시에 선 현들의 사상과 인생관 등을 비판적으로 검토해봄으로써 인문학적 인 소양을 늘리는 기회를 가질 수 있을 것이다. 본 교과목까지 수 강하면 고급 한문 강좌나 한문 관련 전공과목을 수강하는 데에도 무리가 없는 수준의 한문 실력을 배양할 수 있을 것이다.
This course is designed for students who have taken ele- mentary Classical Chinese 1 and 2 or its equivalent. Based on the skills gained in the elementary level courses, students will further their understanding of Classical Chinese and fos- ter advanced reading skills. Students are expected to read and analyze full-length classical poems and prose selected from a variety of disciplines such as literature, philosophy, and history. Students will have an opportunity to put their reading skills into practice and engage in a critical reading of the classics. Students who have successfully completed this course may proceed to take advanced / major courses in Classical Chinese.
032.008 한문명작읽기 3-3-0
Readings in Classical Chinese Masterpiece 본 교과목은 초급한문과 중급한문에 이은 고급 수준의 한문 명 작에 대한 강좌이다. 초중급 한문 과정에서 다져진 실력을 바탕으 로 고품격의 다양한 한문 문장을 정밀하게 읽어보는 과정이다. 초 급한문과 중급한문에서는 주로 모범적이고 정격에 가까우며 비교 적 평이한 문장을 다룬다. 그러다보니 유명하고 중요한 한문 문장 임에도 초급자가 이해하기 쉽지 않다고 판단되면 배제되는 경우가 많았다. 본 강좌에서는 이러한 한문 문장을 경사자집(經史子集)의 다방면에 걸쳐 두루 선별하여 읽어보고자 한다. 본 교과목까지 수 강하게 되면 정격적인 한문 문장뿐만 아니라 다소 파격적이고 난 해한 문장에 대한 이해와 적응력을 높임으로써 한문을 깊이 배우 거나 한문과 관련된 분야를 전공하려는 학문후속세대에게 자신감 을 심어줄 수 있을 것이다.
This course is designed for students who have already taken Intermediate Chinese or its equivalent. Students will do a close and in-depth reading of masterpieces in Korean and Chinese classics. The readings will cover works of Confucian classics, history, philosophy and literature (經史子集). While students have only looked at model sentences until the inter- mediate level, in this course, students will frequently deal with complex and abnormal sentence structure as a way to learn how to construe and analyze unconventional sentences.
The course is recommended for, but not restricted to, stu- dents who plan to major in related fields. Students are ex- pected to show a great enthusiasm for learning Classical Chinese and East Asian thought.
032.009 역사와 철학 한문원전읽기 3-3-0
Selected Classical Chinese Readings in History and Philosophy by Chinese and Korean Writers
역사 및 철학과 관련된 중국의 고전적 저술들을 강독하는 과목 이다. 학문의 길, 인간과 자연, 사회경제, 가족과 공동체, 문학과 예술, 역사의식 등 다양한 주제들을 다룬 글들이 선독 내용에 포 괄되며, 한문 독해 등 인문학 연구자로서의 기본적인 자질을 배양 하는 데 강의의 목적이 있다.
032.010 초급중국어 1 3-3-1 Elementary Chinese 1
고등학교 과정에서 중국어를 배우지 않은 학생을 위한 초급 단 계의 중국어 강의이다. 중국어 발음법을 정확하게 습득한 후 구문 을 토대로 한 초급 문법을 학습하여 회화 및 독해와 작문의 기초 를 확립하는 과정이다. 따라서 본 교과목은 이전 과정에서 중국어 를 학습한 경험이 있는 학생의 수강은 권하지 않는다.
This course is the first step of Elementary Chinese course.
Students enrolling in this course will be able to practice Chinese pronunciation and to learn the basic of elementary level grammar, reading and writing. This course is for stu- dents who have never taken Chinese class.
032.011 초급중국어 2 3-3-1 Elementary Chinese 2
고등학교 과정에서 2개 학기 이상 중국어를 배웠거나 중국어에 대한 초보적인 지식이 있는 학생을 위한 초급 두 번째 단계의 강 의이다. 중국어 발음법을 숙지하고 문법과 작문에 기초 지식을 갖 춘 학생이라면 누구나 들을 수 있다. 말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기와 문법 등 중국어 전반에 걸쳐 초급 단계의 학습을 완성하는 과정이 다. 이 과목을 수강하면 기초 회화와 독해 능력을 갖출 수 있고, 향후 중급의 중국어를 학습할 수 있다.
This course is the second step of Elementary Chinese course.
This course is for students who have taken Elementary mentary Chinese course in high school. Students enrolling in this course will be able to learn the basic of elementary level speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar synthetically.
032.012 중급중국어 1 3-3-0 Intermediate Chinese 1
본 교과목은 초급중국어 2 또는 고등학교에서 중국어를 4개 학 기 이상 수강한 학생을 대상으로 말하기, 듣기, 읽기, 쓰기의 전 영역에 걸쳐 중급 수준의 중국어를 학습할 수 있도록 개설하였다.
초급중국어 2를 이어 일상의 구어 듣기와 말하기, 중국의 고등학 교 수준의 문장 읽기와 쓰기를 익힌다. 본 과목을 수강한 학생은 중국어를 모국어로 쓰는 사람들과 일상생활에서의 원활한 의사소 통이 가능함은 물론 기본적인 문헌 해독에도 어려움이 없게 될 것 이다. 나아가 중국어로 학문 연구 및 사회생활을 수행할 수 있는 고급 문헌 해독의 기초를 닦는 과정이므로 중국 관련 학문 및 직 업에 종사하려는 학생은 반드시 수강해야 한다.
This course especially focuses on developing students’
ability of speaking, listening, reading and writing. This is a follow up course to Elementary Chinese 2. Students enrolling in this course will be able to enhance their language capa- bilities required for communication with native speakers and interpretation of elementary level texts written in Chinese.

‘대학영어 2: 글쓰기’는 이미 ‘대학영어 1’을 수강한 학생들의 학술 영작문 실력을 키우는 데 목적이 있다. 이 강좌는 학생들이 자료를 정리하여 논쟁적이며 분석적인 에세이를 쓸 수 있도록 돕 는다. 영어로 씌어진 자기 글을 직접 수정하고 흔한 EFL 글쓰기 오류를 피하도록 지도한다. 문단 위주의 글쓰기 연습을 한 후 학 기말에는 4∼5개 문단 분량의 에세이를 써서 발표하고 수정하는 과정을 거쳐서 완성, 제출하도록 한다.
This course aims at helping students improve their ability to write cohesive and grammatically correct paragraphs and essays in English. Successful completion of ‘College English 1’ is a prerequisite for this course. The course will train stu- dents to organize information and to write argumentative and analytic paragraphs effectively. Students will learn to self-edit and to avoid common EFL writing mistakes. At the end of the term, students will complete a 4∼5 paragraph essay, de- liver it orally in front of the class, then edit and revise it for final submission.

This course aims at helping students improve their oral communication/presentation skills in academic settings. This class trains students to give speeches, to make presentations before an audience, and to communicate effectively in a va- riety of oral settings such as informal and formal discussions and debates.

This course helps students to develop both language skills and critical thinking ability by offering them an opportunity to read, discuss, and write about a selection of representative nonfictional essays from diverse academic disciplines, includ- ing humanities, arts, social sciences, and natural science. The class may either be organized around a single overarching theme or cover a series of different yet preferably interre- lated themes.

Advanced English: Academic Writing
영어로 학술적인 글을 쓰는 능력을 기르는 것을 주된 목표로 삼는다. 한 문단짜리 글을 쓰는 것에서 시작해 점차 정해진 주제 나 텍스트에 대해 여러 문단으로 이루어진 논쟁적/분석적인 글 혹 은 완성된 기말논문을 쓰는 단계로 나아간다. 영어로 글을 쓰기 위해 알아두어야 할 일반적인 규칙과 관습을 익히고 좋은 문체를 구성하는 요소가 무엇이지 또한 배운다. 각각의 글쓰기 과제는 읽 기 과제와 짝을 이루어 부과되며, 읽기 과제는 영산문의 표본이 될 만한 것들 중에서 선별된다.
The main goal of this course is to teach students how to write decent academic prose in English. Students may begin by constructing a self-contained paragraph and gradually pro- ceed to write multi-paragraph argumentative/analytical essays or complete term papers on pre-assigned topics or texts.
They will also have opportunities to be acquainted with gen- eral rules and conventions of writing in English and learn the elements of good prose style. Each writing assignment will be coupled with appropriate reading assignment, which in itself should be a fine example of English prose.

Students will develop their under- standing of the texts by studying their historical and social contexts, analyzing characters, investigating symbols and themes, and rehearsing scenes from each play. Advanced English: Presentation aims to systematically en- hance students’ presentation skills. The course will provide students with extensive practice speaking to groups and will develop students’ awareness of and proficiency in delivery, content organization, appropriate presentation language and effective listening skills. Additionally, students will practice making and presenting analyses, handling question-and-answer periods, and managing time during presentations. Students will be taught all skills in a cumulative manner, and will be evaluated on the progressive integration of these skills into their presentations.

영어로 쓰였거나 번역된 문학작품을 텍스트로 삼아 읽기, 말하 기, 쓰기 훈련을 병행하면서 영어 능력의 향상과 비판적 사고력 함양을 꾀한다. 주로 단편소설과 중편소설을 다루지만 적절한 길 이의 장편소설이나 시도 다룰 수 있다. 문학 텍스트를 분석하는 법을 배우기보다 문학을 도구로 삼아 다양한 사회문화적 쟁점에 대한 지적인 토론의 장을 마련하는 것을 목표로 한다.
This course helps students to develop both language skills and critical thinking ability by offering them an opportunity to read, discuss, and write about representative works of lit- erature written in or translated into English. While expected to consist mainly of short stories and novellas, reading mate- rial may also include novels of moderate length and poems.
The aim of the course is not to learn how to interpret liter- ary texts, but to create an intellectual forum on a variety of social and cultural issues, using literature as a medium.

College English Foundations is designed to prepare stu- dents with sub-500 or sub-550(for freshmen in 2006 only) TEPS scores for the College English courses by building their communicative abilities and core English skills. While listening, reading and vocabulary will be featured in the course, the primary focus will be on building students’ oral fluency.

This course is for students with basic French writing skills. It will cultivate skills for writing simple sentences. A thorough study of the sentence structure and the syntactic roles of words will be undertaken along with writing ex- ercises and corrections.

본 교과목은 보다 실용적인 강좌의 필요성이 강조되는 사회 환 경과 변화하는 학생들의 요구에 부합하기 위해 문법, 독해가 아닌 회화 위주로 진행되는 수업이다. 불어불문학과 전용 어학실습실에 서 진행되는 이 교과목은 비디오테이프, 카세트테이프, CD ROM 타이틀 등 다양한 매체를 통한 프랑스어 말하기 능력의 습득은 물 론 언어를 통한 프랑스 사회 문화의 이해도 아울러 목표로 삼고 있다.
Considering the changing social climate for more pragmatic studies, this course focuses its goals not on grammar or read- ing, but on conversation. Taking place in the language lab of the French department, the class will not only place emphasis

독일어는 유럽에서 가장 많은 사람들이 사용하는 언어이며, 문 학, 철학, 법학, 사회과학, 자연과학 등 다양한 학문분야의 중요한 기본텍스트들을 습득하는 데에 필수적인 언어이다. 또한 쉽게 접 하기 힘든 유럽권의 사회와 문화를 이해하는 데에 반드시 필요한 언어이기도 하다.

본 교과목은 기초적인 독일어 지식을 가지고 있는 학생들을 대 상으로 하는 독일어 강좌로서, <초급독일어 1>을 수강하였거나 고등학교 과정에서 주당 3시간의 독일어 강좌를 2학기 이상 이수 한 학생들이 참여할 수 있다. 본 강좌는 간단한 독일어 텍스트의 독해를 위해 필요한 초급 수준의 문법과 독해능력의 배양 그리고 독일어를 사용한 기초적인 의사소통 능력의 함양을 제 1차적인 목 적으로 한다.
This course is aimed at students who have already fol- lowed foundation course, Basic German 1, and those who acquire a basic knowledge of German. Students are to im- prove their reading skills by reading literary works, logical writings and other texts written in German and to understand elementary German grammar. Also, acquiring various German expressions and cultivating reading and writing skills will be driven in this course.

This course is designed for those who have already taken Elementary German 1 and 2 or have acquired understanding of basic German. In this course, students are asked to study grammar and to improve their speaking, listening and reading skills based on their foundation knowledge of German. This course also covers general aspects of German culture and society.

본 교과목은 초급 수준의 독일어 지식을 가지고 있는 학생들을 대상으로 하는 독일어 강좌로서, <초급독일어 1, 2>를 수강하였거 나, 고등학교 과정에서 주당 6시간의 독일어 강좌를 4학기 이상 이수한 학생들이 참여할 수 있다. 본 강좌는 일상적인 독일어 텍 스트의 독해를 위해 필요한 중급 수준의 심화문법과 독해능력의 배양 그리고 독일어를 사용한 일상적인 의사소통 능력의 함양을 제 1차적인 목적으로 한다.

이 강좌는 <독일어입문 1⋅2>를 수강했거나 그에 상응하는 정 도의 독일어 실력을 갖춘 학생들에게 좀더 심화되고 실용적인 독 일어 활용능력을 길러주는 것을 목표로 하며, 아울러 학생들에게 독일어권의 문화에 적응할 수 있는 능력을 습득할 수 있게 하는 데 중점을 둔다.
This lecture is offered for students who have completed Introduction to German I or II demonstrate equivalent com- petence The course will help students acquire the practical German speaking skill needed to interact with those from German speaking countries.
032.039 독일어로 읽는 문화와 예술 3-3-0 Readings in German Art and Culture 이 교과목은 <독일어 입문 1⋅2>를 수강했거나 그에 상응하는 독일어 능력을 갖춘 학생들을 위하여 개설되는 과목으로, 독일어권 의 문화⋅예술과 인문학 관련 전문서적을 읽을 수 있는 능력을 함 양하는 데 중점을 두며, 이를 위해 독일어권 문학⋅미학⋅역사⋅철 학 등의 분야에서 널리 알려진 주요 원전을 발췌하여 강독한다.
This course is recommended for students who have com- pleted Elementary German 1, 2 or demonstrate equivalent
competence. The student will acquire the ability to read books in German while examining German literature, aes- thetics, history, and philosophy.

Contemporary German
시사자료를 사용하여 현장성을 높일 수 있고 내용에 대한 관심과 언어에 대한 관심을 결합시키면서 실용적인 언어교육을 펼칠 수 있다는 강좌 고유의 특성을 살린 과목이다. 인문, 사회과학을 비롯 한 타학문 전공자들의 독일어 텍스트 이해능력을 향상시키고 독일 어권의 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등에 폭넓은 지식을 제공하는 것을 일차적인 목표로 삼는다. 더 나아가 독일에 관한 다양한 정보를 상호교환 하는 장의 역할을 함으로써, 장기적으로는 학제 간 연구의 기반조성에 기여한다.
Various language materials in contemporary German are treated in order to improve the ability to read German texts in the fields of politics, economics, society and culture. The course will focus on offering the basis for interchanging in- formation in interdisciplinary fields.
032.041 초급러시아어 1 3-3-1 Elementary Russian 1
러시아어를 처음 접하는 학부생을 위한 러시아어 기본 문법 및 회화강좌로서 러시아어를 실생활 및 사회, 문화적 맥락 안에서 적 절하게 구사할 수 있도록 하는 데에 주안점을 두며 문법과 회화의 조화로운 습득을 궁극적인 목표로 한다. 본 강좌는 기본적으로 언 어 강좌이지만 러시아의 지리, 역사, 문화, 문학, 사회, 경제 전반 에 관한 종합적 정보가 자연스럽게 언어와 함께 소개될 예정이다.
학기말에는 학생들이 배운 내용과 창의적인 협동과정을 통해 그룹 단위의 짧은 연극 (Skit)을 보여주어야 한다.
Designed for students who have never learned Russian be- fore, the course aims to teach students elementary Russian grammar and vocabulary. By taking this course students can carry on basic conversation adequately in everyday social and cultural contexts. This course is basically language course, but other related knowledge, such as Russian geog- raphy, history, culture, society and geopolitical information, is well integrated with course materials. At the end of the semester, students are required to act out short skits in groups based on all course materials and creative collaboration.
032.042 초급러시아어 2 3-3-1 Elementary Russian 2
<초급러시아어1>을 수강한 학부생이나 고등학교 때 러시아어를 접하기는 했지만 초보적 수준만 이수한 학부생들을 위한 강좌로 러시아어의 격 체계, 불규칙 동사활용을 완벽하게 활용할 수 있도 록 하고 러시아어문법의 어려운 부분인 동사의 상이나 무인칭구문 이나 피동구문, 재귀동사 구문 등에 대해서도 배우며 나아가 다양 한 종류의 초보적 텍스트를 독해할 수 있도록 하고 일상적 주제에 대한 회화나 작문도 가능하게 하는 것을 목표로 한다.
This course is for students who have taken Beginning Russian1 or those who have been taught elementary Russian grammar. The course enables students to master Russian case system and irregular verbal conjugation. The most difficult Russian grammar, such as verbal aspect, impersonal sentence, passive sentence, constructions using reflexive verbs will be included in this course. In this course, students are expected to read basic Russian prose and dialogues, as well as com-
pose short texts and carry on everyday conversations.

As a continuation of Elementary Russian 1 and 2, the course is designed to teach advanced and complicated gram- mar and vocabulary and enable students to understand writ- ten style texts, constructions and expressions. In addition the goal of this course is to enable students to carry on cultured conversation in Russian on a variety of topics and write notes, letters, or keep a journal in Russian. Also the course offers skills to read basic Russian texts in all speech or lit- erary genres. The course helps students to develop a curiosity about and love for Russian culture, history, and literature.
