It can live as long as 50 years and does not breed until it is at least ten years old. It lives in deep waters around most subAntarctic islands. We come to this world knowing only the basic survival skill of sucking milk from our mother’s breasts. Every other skill, including talking, eating, crawling, and walking, is acquired. Violence is no exception. Extensive research has shown that watching violent scenes leads people, especially children, to become violent. And the proof cannot be denied. We all know that children learn from adults. Thus, if there is violence in the home, children think that this behavior is acceptable. In later life, they carry out acts of violence because they think that it is acceptable behavior.

There are many things in life that we do not know, and there is freedom in saying “I don’t know.” When we admit this, we can then open ourselves up to the opportunity to learn ― and there is power in that. We cannot possibly know everything. And when we think we do, we limit ourselves from growing and learning more. People who can admit not knowing tend to be more intellectually and emotionally confident than those who pretend to know everything. They are also likely to be more comfortable with who they are, and thus don’t feel the need to cover up their ignorance. People can actually end up appearing more foolish when they act as if they had knowledge that they do not.

As Robert Pirsig comments in his book, don’t trust a mechanic who listens to music while working on your car. If he is listening to music, then he is not listening to the engine. As for me, I write more quickly and effectively when the stereo is off. It is impossible to create a sentence and listen to a passage of Tchaikovsky. If I’m trying to do both, then I’m actually switching between the two, inevitably taking more time and causing more errors to my writing and thinking. Therefore, music should not be present where careful mental work is required.

Instead, give it to those who will treasure it. Homeless shelters are always in need of decent clothing. In fact, most homeless people would give anything for new clothing. Why not give your old shoes or jacket to the guy on the street corner? ① Get Rich by Selling Used Items!

Every time I receive a wedding invitation, I go to a shop and buy an oldfashioned ice cream maker as a gift. Every couple’s response is the same. First they look puzzled, and then they say ‘thank you’ before setting the thing aside. Eventually, they will put the ice cream maker on a shelf or in the garage and forget about it. Time will pass as they settle into the daytoday business of being husband and wife. One day, one of them will happen to think of the ice cream maker.
