「so+형용사/부사+that」 구문은 ‘매우 …해서 ~하다’라는 뜻 - The wound was so painful that I went to see a doctor.
그 상처가 너무 아파서 나는 의사를 만나러 갔다.
「so that 주+동」 : ~하기 위해, ~하려고(=in order that) [목적]
- He wrote her phone number on his hand so that he would remember it.
so+형용사/부사+that+주어+동사
「so … that cannot ~」은 ‘너무 …해서 ~할 수 없다’ 혹은
‘~하기에는 너무 …하다’라는 의미로 「too … to-v」 와 같이 쓰임 - He was so angry that he could not speak.
그는 너무 화가 나서 말을 할 수가 없었다.
- The boy is too young to go to school.
= The boy is so young that he can’t go to school.
부정어로 인한 도치
not only, not until, no sooner, never, little, hardly, seldom 등의 부정어(구)가 문두에 위치하면 주어와 동사의 위치가 바뀜
Be동사, 조동사: 그대로 어순만 바꾸기
- Never have I seen such a mean person!
나는 그렇게나 비열한 사람은 본 적이 없어!
일반동사: 조동사 do를 인칭과 시제에 맞게 바꿔 주어 앞으로
- Seldom did she have a chance to talk with her mother.
부정어로 인한 도치
No sooner A than B: A 하자마자 B 하다 = Hardly[Scarcely] A when[before] B
He had no sooner crossed the border than he was arrested. → No sooner had he crossed the border than he was arrested.
We had hardly started when it began to rain.
부정어로 인한 도치
not only가 문두로 이동했을 때, not only가 이끄는 절을 도 치시킨다.
Jim not only got good grades, but he also was good at sports.
→ Not only did Jim get good grades, but he also was good at sports.
부정어구(never/seldom/hardly/rarely/little) + 조동사 + 주어 + 일반동사 + be동사 + 주어
