서 론개복치류는 세계적으로 개복치과의 개복치
(Mola mola)
와Mola ramsayi,
물개복치과의물개복치(Matsura lanceolatus)
와Matsura oxyuropterus,
그리고쐐기개복치(Ranszania lae- vis)
의5
개의종으로분류되고있다(Fraser-Brunner. 1951).
이 들중우리나라에주로나타나는종은개복치(Mola mola)
이고,
어시장에서의조사에서그외물개복치도드물게나타난다.
우 리나라에서상업적으로어획되는종은대부분이개복치로서서 해의목포,
남해의여수,
제주그리고동해의속초,
동해,
강구,
포항등위판장의주변해역에서어획된것이유통되고있다.
그 러나대부분의개복치는대형어선의입출항이잦은부산의공 동어시장에위판되고있는것으로추정되고있다.
우리나라에서는개복치를식용으로하고있지만일반적이지 는않고
,
대부분의개복치는동해안의포항,
동해,
속초를중심 으로한경상북도,
강원도연안지역에서주로소비되고있다.
특 히포항지역의경우,
개복치는집안에서의결혼,
장례등의경조 사의음식으로서없어서는안되는것중의하나이다.
개복치에 대한연구는전세계적으로개복치과의해역별유 전적연관성
(Bass et al., 2005),
연령(Nakatsubo and Hirose, 2007),
산란성숙(Nakatsubo et al., 2007),
수심별 이동(Car- tamil and Lowe, 2004; Watanabe and Sato, 2008),
전자태그부착에의한이동경로
(Sims et al., 2009)
등에관한연구가있다.
특히영국에서는비행기를이용한목시조사에의한분포를조 사한것이있다(Houghton et al., 2006).
최근 들어 우리나라 주변의 바다 수온이 증가함에 따라
(Hwang et al., 2012)
해파리의대량번식현상이점점늘어나고있고이에따른연안양식업
,
연안정치망,
자망,
안강망등주 로멸치를어획대상으로하는어선어업에많은손실을안겨주 고있다.
이에대해정부에서는해파리퇴치를위해해파리차단 망,
해파리탈출장치,
절단그물 등다양한방법을고안하였다(Chung et al., 2012).
또한해파리의천적을이용한퇴치방안으 로해수욕장주변에말쥐치를방류하기도하였다.
개복치역시 해파리의천적으로알려져있지만(Pope et al., 2010)
이종의생 태적역할에대한연구는거의전무하다고할수있다.
앞으로우리나라주변해역에서해파리의대량번식현상은증 가할것으로예측되고있어해파리의천적인개복치의생태적 역할에대한연구의필요성이대두되고있다
.
우리나라에서는 개복치가상당량이어획되어소비되고있지만이종에대한생 태적연구는말할것도없고기본적인어획위치나어획량등에 대한조사자료도없다.
본연구에서는우리나라주변해역에서어획되고있는개복치 의어획장소와어체의크기분포에대한연구결과를보고하고 자한다
.

한국 주변해역에서의 개복치(Mola mola) 어획현황

Catch Distribution of Ocean Sunfish Mola mola off Korean Waters

Fisheries Resources Management Division, National Fisheries Research & Development Institute, Busan 619-902, Korea To determine the status of sunfish fishery, fishing places, body size, weight, etc. were investigated from 2010 to 2012 in Busan Cooperative Fish Market. Most of the sunfish were caught by large purse seine around Jeju island, and the fishing ground of sunfish were reached from Heuksando in the southern Yellow Sea to Guryongpo in the southern East Sea. The range of total length (TL) of the sunfish caught by purse seine was 55-271 cm, and the estimated length-weight relationship was BW = 8E-06TL
3.3797. From the relationship, the weight of 50 cm in total length was estimated to be ca. 4 kg, TL 100 cm was ca 46 kg, TL 200 cm was ca 478 kg, and TL 271 cm was estimated to be 1,336 kg.

재료 및 방법
본연구를위하여
2010
년1
월부터2012
년12
월까지부산공동 어시장에위판되고있는개복치류들에대해서,
현장조사원들 이Fraser-Brunner (1951)
의분류기준에따라개복치를분류하 였고,
각각의개복치에대해서는어획위치,
어획방법,
체장,
체 중등을기록하였다.
어획위치는개복치를포획한어선의선장과인터뷰를통해어
업용해구도의구분에따라위경도
30'×30'
의소해구단위로확인하였다
.
체장은위판장현장에서주둥이로부터꼬리지느 러미끝까지즉,
전장(Total length; TL)
으로cm
단위까지측정되었다
(Fig. 1).
그리고개복치의체중은큰것이톤단위의무게를가지므로일반적인저울로서는측정이불가능하여일반저울 로서가능한크기의것만을
kg
단위로측정되었다.
결 과
부산의공동어시장에위판된개복치는대부분이대형선망어 업에의해어획된것이었다
.
개복치의연도별월별어획자료를 보면(Table 1),
어획미수는2010
년174
미, 2011
년184
미그리 고2012
년137
미로서총495
미였다.
월별어획미수를보면, 12
월에서2
월사이에가장어획미수가적은반면, 3
월에서8
월에 는비교적높은어획빈도를나타내었다.
특히2010
년과2011
년 에는4
월, 2012
년에는6
월에가장많이어획되었다.
개복치에대한대형선망어업의어획자료를분석한결과
(Fig 2),
전체적으로제주도주변에서대부분이어획되었고,
어획장 소의범위는제주도를중심으로서쪽으로는흑산도근해,
동으 로는울산근해까지미치는것으로나타났다.
어획연도에따라 어획위치의중심이다소차이를보이기는하지만제주도를중 심으로연도에따라남부혹은서부,

한국주변해역에서의 개복치 어획현황

서어획이이루어지는것으로나타났다
.
어획된 개복치의 체장조성을 보면
(Fig. 3),
가장 작은 것이2011
년에어획된것으로55 cm
였고,
가장큰것은2012
년에 어획된것으로271 cm
였다. 2010
년의경우,
어획된개복치의 전장범위는63-238 cm (
평균125 cm)
였다. 2011
년에는전장 범위55-195 cm,
평균전장119 cm, 2012
년에는전장범위77- 271 cm (
평균148 cm)
였다.
연도별체급별빈도가비교적높은 모드값을보면, 2010
년에서는70 cm, 120 cm, 140 cm
등3
개 의모드로나타났고, 2011
년에는100 cm, 2012
년에는130 cm
로각각1
개의모드값을나타내었다
.
어획된개복치가운데체중을측정한
65
개체,
즉체장범위77-
137 cm,
체중범위20-107 kg
에대한자료를이용하여확인된체장
-
체중관계식은BW=0.000008TL
3.3797로서(Fig. 4)
체장50 cm
는체중4 kg, 100 cm
는46 kg, 200 cm
는478 kg, 250 cm
는1,017 kg,
어획된개체중가장큰체장인271 cm
의개체는체 중이1,336 kg
으로추정할수있다.
고 찰
개복치의어체크기가일반적인수준을넘어서는엄청난크기
를나타내기때문에어시장에개복치가출현할경우
,
일반인의 주목을받을만큼뉴스거리가된다. 2000
년대에언론에보도되 거나개인의블로그에올린개복치의사진자료들을정리해보 면(Table 2),
서해안의안면도,
목포,
남해안의여수,
제주서귀 포,
그리고동해안의고성,
주문진,
동해,
죽변,
강구등전국연안에서출현하고있음을알수있다
(Fig 5).
본연구에서의개복치어획분포해역은대형선망어업의주요 어장인제주도주변해역으로서이는개복치가어획의주목적이 아닌부수어획에의한것때문인것으로볼수있다
.
즉,
앞서의 언론보도등의자료에따르면전국연안에서나타나고있고특 히,
동해의연안에서많이출현하고있는것으로보아개복치의 분포해역이우리나라전연안인것으로도볼수있지만주요분 포역은제주도와동해안의포항,
강구,
죽변,
동해,
주문진을연 결하는해역인것으로추정된다.
앞으로우리나라주변해역에 서의개복치의서식분포의범위나생태적이동경로에대해서는 보다깊은연구가필요하다고본다.
Nakatsubo and Hirose (2007)
의일본수족관에있는개복치 의성장연구에서버틀란피성장식을도출해내었다.
이연구에 서개복치가1 m
자라는데소요되는기간은약2.5
년, 2 m
는약7
년,
그리고3 m
자라는데약20
년이걸리는것으로추정되었다
.
본연구에서의개복치체장조성에서여러개의체장군모드가있는것으로나타나고있고
, 2012
년에는최대270 cm
의개복치도있어이를연령으로환산하면약

세인것으로추정 된다.
개복치는그생김새와가끔수면가까이에서죽은것처럼떠 다니는모습때문에일반적으로해류에의존해서타성적으로
이동하는느린움직임을가진어류로보기쉽다
.
그러나Car-
tamil and Lowe (2004)
의인공위성을이용한표지조사를한연구에서개복치는수평적으로하루약

적으로는최대

이는결코개복치가수동적이동이나소극적인먹이활동이아닌자발적 이동과적극적인먹이활동을하고있음을알수있다
.
즉,
지금 까지포항의개복치전문점에서수십년간해체작업을해온상 점주인의경험으로부터들은것에따르면,
계절에따라오징어,
멸치,
갈치,
전갱이,
청어,
그리고해파리등이개복치의위에서 발견된다고한다.
이런정황과본연구에서밝힌제주도주변에 서의어획분포상황을볼때,
우리나라주변해역의개복치들은 제주도와동해를잇는해역에서계절에따라오징어,
멸치를비 롯한다양한부어류의회유경로를따라가면서먹이활동을하고 있는것으로추정된다.
최근기후온난화에따른바다수온의상승과더불어전세계 적으로해파리의폭발적인증식이일어나고있어이에따른해 양플랜트
,
해양레저,
수산관련 산업의피해가증가하고 있다(Chung et al., 2012).
세계각국에서는해파리의이상증식원인을생태학적인측면에서해석하고어떻게피해를줄일것인 가에대해많은연구를하고있다
(Richardson et al., 2009).
그 러한연구가운데해파리를먹이로취하는거북,
쥐치,
말쥐치,
그리고개복치등의먹이습성에대한연구도다양하게이루어 져왔다(Ates, 1988; Orsi et al., 2010a; Parker et al., 2005; Orsi et al., 2010b; Revelles et al., 2007).
특히생태적인역할면에 서해파리가늘면개복치가늘것이라고추측하기도한다(Pope

우리나라의경우포항을비롯한동해
,
속초등의동해연안지 역에서개복치가예부터비교적많이포획되어왔던것으로생 각된다.
포항에서는개복치의껍질부분을삶아묵처럼해서오 래전부터식용으로사용했고,
속초의경우물회로해서많이먹 어왔다.
이것때문에전국에서수집되는개복치는포항,
동해,
속초등의주요소비지로보내어져서판매되는것으로생각된 다.
이들지역이개복치로유명한이유는개복치의먹이습성과 연관이있을것으로추측된다.
