Korean Ambassador meets with Executive Chairman of BEPZA to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in EPZs
Ambassador Lee Jang-keun met with Major General Md Nazrul Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) on March 7. KOTRA Trade Representative Mr. Dong Hyon Kim was also present at the meeting.
Noting that Korean companies have greatly contributed to the development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry since the 1970s and that Korea is one of the top investors to EPZs with 70 Korean companies in operation, more than 60,000 Bangladeshi employees in the zone, and cumulative investment volume of around $900 million, they agreed to work together to invite more investment from the Republic of Korea to take advantage of Bangladesh's abundant workforce and promising business opportunities. The two also agreed that Korean investors should now look beyond the RMG sector and highlighted their commitment to promote the diversification of industries in EPZs.
Furthermore, Major General Md Nazrul Islam made assurances that BEPZA will continue to enhance EPZ's business-friendly environment and will make its utmost efforts to support and fulfill the needs of Korean investors.
