According to Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, the reopening of the economy will be discussed in the meeting with President Duterte on Monday as the country still suffers from prolonged lockdowns. Another issue to be addressed is the assistance for the sick and for the poor.

The Bureau of Immigration reiterated that foreign tourists are still not allowed to enter the country, even though some tourist spots have re-opened.

The Supreme Court announced the enforcement of the Community Service Act or the ability of the trial court to impose penalty of community service for those found guilty of minor offenses that are punishable with imprisonment of six month or less. The Act will be implemented on November 2.

Moody’s Analytics retains their forecast for the economy’s contraction this year at 9.2%
due to the uncertainty faced by the Philippines in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Moody’s projects that the country’s GDP is bound to recover on 2021 at 7.8% which is higher than their original projection of 5.2%.
6. Revival of mining industry pushed Business World, 8 October 2020, p. 1
The Department of Finance (DOF) is pushing for the revival of the mining industry to help create more jobs and generate revenues amid the economic slowdown.
Moreover, the agency hopes to raise revenues through the privatization of its mining assets.
