Mercenaries Pose Threat to World Security: Kuwait

Using mercenaries in disputes poses threats on world security and peace regionally and internationally, and breaches the holy principles of the UN Charter.

This came in Kuwait’s speech articulated by its permanent delegate to the UN, Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi.

Mercenaries issue is entangled with other serious issues like terrorism, foreign militants, illegal immigration, and organized crime, said Al-Otaibi.

They intentionally target civilians, captured, and civil institutions, and they commit war crimes, he added.

Reports issued by non-governmental organizations concerned with this issue indicate that poverty, high unemployment rates, and weakness of state organizations all contribute to attracting young people to engage in mercenaries, he said.

Reports further indicate that wages of members of the mercenaries range between

$ 500 to $ 1000 per day and sometimes reach $ 2000 a day, and that the number of those mercenary soldiers reached 20 million, and this figure represents a great threat, he added.
