Kuwait Amir Congratulates Parliament’s SG Allam Al-Kandari on New Position His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Tuesday sent a cable of congratulates to Kuwait National Assembly’s secretary general, Allam Al-Kandari on the occasion of his selection as head of the inter-legislative advisory body’s Arabic speaking group at IPU conference.

In his cable, His Highness the Amir wished Al-Kandari all the best to fulfill the duties of this high position.

His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables.

Earlier today, the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) has chosen Al- Kandari as the head of the inter-legislative advisory body’s Arabic-speaking group, during a meeting on sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) conference in Geneva -KUNA Expat teachers to resume work despite pending degrees’ accreditation

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) agreed to allow expatriate teachers who were newly hired by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and already approved by CSC to proceed with their recruitment procedures pending accreditation of their degrees by the ministry of higher education. Informed sources said MoE had earlier inquired about the possibility of allowing the new teachers to start work after signing affidavits to have their degrees accredited by the ministry of higher education, which usually takes 6 to 12 months. “Both CSC and MoE agreed to allow the teachers to work to cover shortages in some public schools,” the sources added, noting that teachers whose degrees will not be accredited by the end of this period will be terminated – Kuwait Times

Kuwaiti Finance Min., Dominican FM discuss cooperation

Kuwait's Minister of Finance Nayef Al-Hajraf discussed on Tuesday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic Miguel Vargas issues of mutual interests.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed a number of topics including ways to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations between Kuwait and the Dominican Republic, the ministry said in statement.

The meeting came during the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic to Kuwait to discuss various aspects of cooperation between the two countries – KUNA

We Support Development and Building in Kuwait: Sinopec

Vice Chairman, the GM of China Company for Petrochemicals, Sinopec, Lee Dia Nu said that he looks forward that the agreements concluded by his country and Kuwait during the last visit of HH the Amir to Beijing last July shall achieve a new leap in enhancing relations and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of energy and petrochemicals.

Lee Dia Nu said during his meeting of a media delegation from Kuwait vising China, the previous night at the Company’s headquarter in Beijing that Sinopec has close relations with KOC, and that this relation enhances cooperation between the two countries. He affirmed that he supports development and construction in Kuwait.

“Kuwait has become a great and open market as the last meetings of the committees witnessed broadening and deepening of relations in oil services between the two countries to create new opportunities for cooperation, especially in the field of petrochemicals. Moreover, Kuwait would like to benefit from the great experiences of China in the new economic development process subject to Kuwait vision 2035”, he said.

On his part, manager of oil services at the company, Chu Ji indicates that there is a plan to maximize and broaden cooperation with KOC, and that the expansion project is ready, however, it requires some services, like road pavement and others. He remarked that nearly 500 Kuwaitis are working with the company.

On her part, manager of Sej Company, which provides various services in the field of oil has talked about cooperation with KNPC in Kuwait to establish a big refinery, 47% of which has been established in addition to multiple other projects in Kuwait with KOC Company.

On his part, head of the media delegation, vice GM of editorial sector, editor-in-chief of KUNA, Saad Al-Ali said that when Kuwait launched its vision 2035, China was a basic player and a key partner in projects. He mentioned also that Kuwait is a key state in the Silk Road project- Al-Jareeda

Business Councils Discussed Kuwait’s Vision 2035

The Six Business Councils including GBCK, BBF, FBCK, AusBG, and CBC hosted more than 400 members representing more than 75 companies at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center.

Members of business councils discussed business files in Kuwait and Kuwait vision for the year 2035 as well as opportunities areas for foreign companies in Kuwait and legislations associated with labor and available support structures that might assist foreign companies working in Kuwait.

The Committee consists of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, State Minister for Economic Affairs, Hind Al-Sabeeh, German Ambassador Carlfield Bergnz, Austrian Ambassador, Dr.

Kuwait Urges World to Act in Unison for Ending Organized Crimes

Kuwaiti Attorney-General Bader Al-Masad on Tuesday urged the world countries to take collective actions and unify their policies to counter trans-national organized crimes.

"Such crimes not only threaten interests and security of individual states, but also the security of the whole world," Al-Masad said in his speech at the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime held in Vienna.

"Synergy is growing among states both at bilateral and multilateral levels to agree on principles for fighting crimes and enhancing cooperation in relevant legal procedures." Al-Masad pointed out that Kuwait is a deep believer in the importance of greater regional and international cooperation for boosting national and international security and stability.

"Achieving this goal will help states focus on bringing about human and economic development for their peoples," he said.

The Kuwait official shed lights on a series of moves taken by his country to help control and suppress the organized crimes both at the national and international levels.

Kuwait has enacted several key laws in this regard such as the anti-money laundering law, the law on fighting human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, Al-Masad said. It has also established the Anti-Corruption Authority and the National Bureau for Human Rights, he added.

He noted that the Ministry of Justice has also created a special committee to assess the country's commitment to the relevant international conventions and treaties. Kuwait has also introduced a new law for countering cybercrimes and signed the Arab Convention on Combating Information Technology, he elaborated.

Al-Masad unveiled that Kuwait also weigh joining the Council of Europe's 2001 Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. He stated that Kuwait calls on the international community to intensify cooperation to combat money laundering, misuse of information and communication technologies to carry out or finance criminal acts.

Al-Masad noted that Kuwait supports the global efforts to end all illegal use of technology and calls for drafting an international agreement to combat cybercrimes. The 9th session was launched Monday and will continue until October 19 with the participation of about 800 representatives of governments, crime experts and civil society partner –KUNA

Kuwaiti MPs make big efforts to activate UNRWA -- Al-Deqbasi

Kuwait's parliamentary delegation is keen on the issuance of resolutions aiming to activate the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said a Kuwaiti lawmaker on Tuesday.

The delegation's members are participating effectively in different activities of the Inter- Parliamentary Union's (IPU) committees, MP Ali Al-Deqbadi, a member of the parliamentary caucus, said in a press statement during taking part in the 139th session of IPU.

The delegation has several working papers regarding providing support to the agency, he added.

It seeks to obtain backing to UNRWA and is keen on issuing decisions to activate its action to be in favor of the refugees, he stressed.

Kuwait's lawmakers are coordinating with Arab, Muslim and Asian counties to attain support for the fair issues, he affirmed.

Al-Deqbasi stated that the IPU is considered the second largest international organization that includes lawmakers representing all nations across the globe.

The delegation's action is in line with the country's policy based on disseminating peace and security, and promoting humanitarian role of the international organizations, he noted, hoping for a "useful" participation in the IPU's meeting – KUNA

Deputy FM receives Qatari ambassador

Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah held talks yesterday with Qatari Ambassador to Kuwait Bandar bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah. They both spoke about bilateral relations and ways to boost them as well as the latest regional and international developments.

Kuwait marks world poverty day

The State of Kuwait, along with many nations of the globe, mark today the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, boasting a long record of aiding the needy and soothing pain of people in hardships. According to the UN, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the declaration by the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 47/196 of 22 December 1992, of 17 October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The theme of this years’

commemoration is ‘coming together with those furthest behind to build an inclusive world of universal respect for human rights and dignity.’ Celebrations in 2018 also marks the 30th anniversary of the Call to Action by Father Joseph Wresinski — which inspired the observance of October 17 as the World Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty — and the recognition by the United Nations of the day as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty – Kuwait Times

We Seek to Attract More Kuwaitis to Our Universities: US Ambassador

US Ambassador to Kuwait, Lawrence Silverman expressed his state’s keenness to attract more Kuwaiti students to study in US universities, which provide multiple choices and high level of education, remarking that this study of benefit for both parties, the Kuwaiti and the American.

“The aim of those exhibitions is to give Kuwaiti students multiple choices among various US universities, which all provide a higher level of education”, said Silverman.

“We encourage Kuwaiti students to study in USA and to choose their desired major”, he added Silverman’s statement came after inaugurating the educational exhibition launched by Linden Institution for Educational Services at Marina Hotel the previous day, which hosted representatives of 12 US universities – Al-Rai
