Acoustic Emission Source Generated During Vickers Indentation on Soda-lime Glass

An acoustic emission test was used to investigate Vickers indentation of commercial soda-lime glass (slide glass) for various indentation loads. The major source of acoustic emission during the loading stage of the indentation may be considered as the formation of penny-like cracks rather than the median vent. Acoustic emission was not observed during the holding stage of the inden- tation. The major source of acoustic emission during the unloading stage of the indentation may be considered as the propagation of lateral cracks rather than the propagation of radial/median cracks.
