The following is the interview Bella Torres, an art reporter from The Barcelona Times, had with Mr. Gaudi.

Torres: Let’s start by talking about Casa Mila. The house is entirely made of natural stone, and its outside looks like the waves of the sea. It’s the kind of house we might see in a fairy tale.

One of the dramatic games of human against machine is the ‘chess match’ between Deep Blue and Kasparov.

① In his whole life, Kasparov’s most famous match came in 1997, when he agreed to play a six-game match in New York against Deep Blue, a chess supercomputer built by IBM. ② It could analyze 200 million chess moves every second. ③ Although Kasparov, the world chess champion, ruled his sport for decades, Deep Blue destroyed Kasparov after just nineteen moves in the sixth and deciding match. ④ The board game Go, known as Baduk in Korea, was considered to be more complicated than the chess. ⑤ This match showed the increasing power and sophistication of computer technology.

La Sagrada Familia is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Spain. It was designed by Antoni Gaudi, one of the greatest architects Spain has ever produced.

Although not finished, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Though building of La Sagrada Familia had begun in 1882, Gaudi started working on it in 1883.

Gaudi worked on it until he died, and at the time of his death in 1926, less than a quarter of the building was finished. One of the reasons of the delay was that it was built from private donations. The Spanish Civil War also played a leading role in the slow building process.

Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia will finally be completed in 2026, 100 years after his death.

① The church was about 50% complete at Gaudi’s death.

② The Sagrada Familia’s building was supported by government money.

③ Gaudi took responsibility for the construction of the church in 1882.

④ The Sagrada Familia’s construction was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War.

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. The word ‘psychology’ comes from the ancient Greek roots logos, meaning ‘knowledge or study.’ The word ‘psyche’ comes from ancient Greek myths. Born a human woman, Psyche was loved by Eros, the god of love. In ancient Greek, her name eventually became associated with the word ‘soul’ or ‘mind.’ In psychology, we call the soul or mind the human psyche. It allows us to think, judge, and feel emotions. Dorothy, Mary and Katherine loved math. They showed special skill in arithmetic and studied mathematics in college. After graduation they worked as teachers before working as “computers” who did the complicated math for the aerospace program at NASA.

Dorothy was a pioneer. She joined NASA in 1943, the first year (A) [ when / which ] the agency began hiring African-American women as computers. She helped to steer the careers of many talented black women at NASA and became the first (B) [ to promote / to be promoted ] into a management position. Mary was the first black woman to move up the ranks and become an engineer at NASA. Her work helped to make supersonic aircraft fly higher and faster. In fact, she was one of the many human computers who stayed with NASA for her entire career. Katherine, who also worked at NASA during her lifetime, was an African-American woman who became an essential member of the team that put the first American in orbit around the Earth. Her familiarity with high-level math made her an unusually capable member of the team that was full of very smart engineers. K: To the bathroom, sir.

H: For 40 minutes a day? What do you do in there?

K: There is no bathroom for me here.

H: What do you mean there is no bathroom for you here?
