~의 상태를 유지하다

경우에 따라 위 표현은 단순하게 maintain이라는 단 어 하나로 대신할 수 있다. 기본적으로 maintain은 '유지하다'라는 뜻으로 그 대상이 속도, 가격, 온도 등 무엇이든 될 수 있지만, 대상이 사물이라면 그 물건의 상태를 유지한다는 뜻으로 이해해도 무방하다.

I spend a lot of time maintaining the condition of my car. (나는 내 차의 상태를 유지하는 데 시간을 많이 할애한다.)

I don't worry too much about maintaining my watch. (나는 시계 관리에 크게 신경 쓰지는 않는다.)
