A B S T R A C T Embryog enic ca llu s ind uctio n an d p lant reg eneration meth od s were develop ed for n ative Kentuck y b lu egrass (Poa p ra ten s es L.) eco ty pes. Mature cary op ses an d immature inflo rescence s (2 0 mm in leng th) o f 4 n ative eco type s an d 5 fo reig n cultivars were p lated o n MS mediu m (30 g/L s ucrose, 3 g/L Phytag el) su pp lemen ted with 1 mg /L 2 ,4 -D, an d cu lture d in th e dark at 2 4℃. Most explants formed calli, bu t more embryo gen ic calli were ind uced fro m the exp lan ts o f immatu re in florescences than cary op ses which prod uced mo stly no n-emb ryo gen ic roo ty calli. In P7 7 ecoty pes, immature in flores cence exp lan ts fo rmed embry ogen ic calli with th e rate o f 6 2~9 5 % , and tho se of field-gro wn plants were more efficient th an greenh ou se-gro wn on es in embry ogen ic callu s ind uctio n.
Plan tlets were reg enerated fro m th e emb ryo genic ca lli when th ey were tran sferred to h ormo ne-free MS mediu m, an d g rew to maturity with ou t mo rph olo gical variation s in g reenh ou se.
