In this study, the sedimentation behavior, dispersion stability, and rheological properties of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-cellulose nanofibril (CNF) mixed suspension were investi- gated. The PVA-CNF suspension was prepared using different mixing ratios. Both the sedimentation behavior and dispersion stability were affected by the concentration of the suspension and the ratio of PVA and CNF. The dispersion stability was observed to be good when the concentration of the mixed suspension was more than 1%. However, when the concentration was less than 1%, particularly in case of low CNF content, sedimenta- tion was observed, which means that constant stirring is necessary for stable use. The PVA-CNF suspension showed shear-thinning behavior, regardless of the CNF content.
Furthermore, as the CNF content increased, the storage modulus and yield stress of the suspension increased, indicating that a suspension with high CNF content will yield a strong network structure.
