제이슨 박(Jason Park) 검사

박종협(Jason Park) 검사는 가족과 함께 11 살에 도미해 뉴욕 스타이브센트
고교를 졸업하고, 뉴욕대 장학생으로 대학을 다니던 중, 교내 기독 학생 모임에서
삶의 큰 변화를 겪었다고 합니다. 이후에 신학을 접하기 위해 기독교계
자유인문대학인 매사추세츠 고든대학으로 편입해서 신학과 철학을 공부하고
그곳에서 학사학위를 받았습니다. 또한, 뉴욕의 유니언 신학대학에서 신학
석사학위를 받았고 브루클린 법대에서 박사학위를 수여했습니다. 당시 공부는
잘 했지만 전공이나 인생의 목표가 없었던 그는 재학 중 브루클린 검찰청에서
학생 보조로 일하며 검사가 되기로 마음먹었다고 합니다.
졸업 후엔 바로 브루클린의 노상 범죄를 단속하며 검사 생활을 시작했고 10 년
전 애틀랜타로 이주한 박 검사는 10 여년간 풀턴카운티 수석 차장검사를 역임한
뒤 현직 Gwinnett County 검사로 일하고 있으며 1.5 세로서 한국말과 영어 모두
유창합니다. 그동안 동양인 판사는 한 명도 없었던 Gwinnett County 판사 직에
도전장을 내밀었습니다.
1.5 세로 정체성 혼란(Identity Crisis)을 겪으면서 신학을 공부하고 또 검사가 된
그의 다채로운 삶은 한국학교에 오는 우리 1.5 세와 2 세들에게 정체성을
심어주며 또한 희망과 비전을 제시할 것입니다.
가족으로는 아트 디렉터인 아내와 아들 한 명 딸 한 명이 있습니다.
Jason Jonghyop Park is currently an Assistant District Attorney for the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He specializes in prosecution of homicides, criminal street gangs, and narcotics trafficking organization cases. He is one of the three "drug prosecutors" of Gwinnett County who conduct wiretap and other court-authorized investigations of multinational and multistate narcotics traffickers. Previously, he was a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Violent Offenders Division, Gangs Unit, of the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Felony Trial Assistant District Attorney in the Gangs Bureau of the Kings County District Attorney's Office in Brooklyn, New York.
Jason's father was sent by his company, Korean Traders Association, to its Manhattan branch in 1982 and brought his family to New York City with a plan of returning to Seoul after 3 years. When Jason's sister was accepted into Barnard College of Columbia University and Jason was accepted to Stuyvesant High School where his young brother would also join him two years later, Jason's parents decided to stay in United States. After graduating from Stuyvesant, Jason received a full scholarship to New York University. After his sophomore year, Jason transferred to Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He received his Master in Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary of New York City followed by Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. He is married to Hye Lee, an art director, with daughter, Hailey, and son, Jarrett.
