The National Infrastructure & GIS Research Division has been involved in the establishment of the nation's major transport policies and plans, which include comprehensive transport policies for mega-economic regions. It performs and supports research to establish national GIS plans and is involved in monitoring, and evaluating their implementation. The Division also provides future policy directions for the government.
Its core functions are to develop major transport policies for national and regional progress, mid-to long-term transport investment plans, transport axis development schemes, high-speed arterial road and railway network plans, international transport network plans for the progress of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, GIS information-sharing network plans, and GIS-based electronic gov-ernment schemes. It is also engaged in the standardization and the study of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and performs research on the construction of cyber territory and ubiquitous spaces.
