ABSTRACT

An Explanatory Model for Health Promoting behaviors in Early-Stage Lung Cancer Patients

Park, Ji Hyeon

Department of Nursing The Graduate School Yonsei University

The purpose of this study was to develop and test an explanatory model for health promoting behaviors in people with early-stage lung cancer.

A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of a review of the studies, literature related to health promoting behaviors, and Pender’s health promotion model. The exogenous variables of the hypothetical model were smoking period, performance status, perceived health status, distress, and the endogenous variables were health promoting behaviors, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, social support.

Data were collected from October, 22 to December, 10, 2013 using self-report questionnaires. The sample was 150 patients with early-stage lung cancer who had been hospitalized and were visited in lung cancer center in one of the hospital located in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, path analysis, and by using SPSS v21.0 and AMOS 21.0.
