Removal of fine particulate matter in a subway platform using hybrid filter system

As the importance of ultrafine particle control emerged, this study investigated the reduction of the number concentration of subway platform by particle size using magnetic hybrid filter (magnet - magnet, magnet - cascade) system. The particle size was set from 0.4 μm to 10 μm and the parameters were set according to the flow rate. The larger the particle size, the higher the removal efficiency of both M-M and M-C filters. The M-C filter showed a maximum removal rate of 30.5% at the ultrafine particle less than PM1. In the M-C filter, it was confirmed that the removal efficiency of weight concentration below the PM10 was 48.2% at the maximum, and that the removal efficiency of the summing up number concentration was 14.4%. It was confirmed that most of the materials collected in the magnet and the cascade filter have iron oxide form. Based on this study, it was found that a large number of fine particles exist in the subway platform environment. Hybrid filter system is effective to control fine particulate matter in subway environment compared with single dust collector.
