14:15 – Price discovery before the establishment of a completely liquid European Gas Market The CEE market is full of conflicting markets and factors that complicate finding the right price for gas. COP-21 pledges and a shift to clean air compete with cheaper domestic coal. Diversifying gas
supplies with US LNG comes at a cost vs. Russian piped gas. Cross-border transmission issues and network codes create varying levels of liquidity between gas hubs and market access for domestic players. Yet price is key in keeping consumer costs low and ensuring a reasonable rate of return for infrastructure projects.
In this complex environment, how do buyers and sellers find a fair point of parity?
Speakers:
Laszlo Fazekas, CEO, MFGK
Mario Matkovic, CEO, MET Croatia Mattia Picco, Head of Trading, Enova
Sebastian Stadler, Chair of the Task Force for Central and South Eastern Europe Gas (CSEE-G), European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET)
14:45 – Energy Project Economics – “Chicken and Egg?” Utilisation drives low prices, but cannot be achieved without low prices.
Is it right to think that lower gas prices are created by higher liquidity facilitated by more
transmission infrastructure bringing gas to the market from an increased range of suppliers? The critical question for governments, financiers and pan-European policy makers is whether lower prices will bring the higher utilisation required to generate required return on investment.
This session will explore the economics of energy projects to understand the circumstances and steps that must be taken to make them work.
Invited Speaker:
Maciej Jakubik, Executive Director, Central Europe Energy Partners
Eric Rasmussen, Director, Natural Resources, EBRD (European Bank of Reconstruction &
Development)
